The former Governor of Missouri, was also with the train. In 1838, Boggs, while Governor of Missouri, had dispatched six thousand militia to attack the Mormons in Ray and Daviess Counties, Missouri. This was done by his issuance of the infamous "Extermination Order" of 27 October 1838. The Mormons have not forgotten the event, even to this day.

a pioneer of 1847, who took up a donation claim nearby.

In early days Scholls Ferry was one of the important crossings of the Tualatin River.

The Marcus Whitman family were killed by the Cayuse Indians under the leadership of Chief Tiloukaikt. The Cayuse took revenge for what they felt was treachery.

Marcus Whitman and his wife Narcissa founded a mission,September 1,1836 in the Walla Walla Valley for the Cayuse Indians. The Cayuse were not receptive. With the coming of the whites,also came diseases which ravished the Indians. When an epidemic of measles killed nearly all of the Cayuse children, the Cayuse took their revenge. They killed 14 whites,including the Whitmans. Marcus was struck in the head with a tomahawk and Narcissas was shot. 40 women and children were carried away to captivity.
