Notes for Carroll Falkner: Re: Carroll L. Falkner 1862-1934 Posted by: William Carroll Falkner Date: December 22, 2000 at 11:19:12 In Reply to: Carroll L. Falkner 1862-1934 by Sharon Falkner of 193
Carroll Lincoln Falkner was my greatgrandfather. My grandfather, named Henry Valentine Falkner, was one of six children C. L. had. According to my father, Vernon Lee Falkner, C. L. was married to a woman named Florence Matilda Carter who was 1/4 Cherokee and was born in Jasper County Texas. He told me C.L. was born in Union Parrish Louisiana, and was deacon at a Baptist church in Alexander, LA, which I believe is south of Alexandria. Of the six children C.L. had, I know not many lived very long. One was named William Carroll Falkner, one of a line that now evidently will end with me. He died of swamp fever, as did a couple of the others. One, a daughter named Vada, married a Newton Martin, and they both passed away in South Texas during the 1980's. They are buried in San Benito, Texas.
Now, my grandfather Henry V. Falkner said he was a third cousin to the author William Faulkner of Oxford, Miss. If that is true then I think C.L. would have to have had a common ancestor with the Colonel William C. Falkner who was also from Oxford and was the greatgrandfather to the author. Perhaps it was his brother. I have read that the common ancestor for that whole Falkner line was originally from Scotland, who briefly settled in Ireland before coming to the states in the Carolinas. Supposedly he still wore his kilt when he lived in America.
I am really interested in what you are able to find out about this. Feel free to contact me via e-mail, at the return address site. My name is William Carroll Falkner, my wife and I and our two children live in Largo, Fla. Hope this is helpful.
