User Home Pages: Diggin' Round the Mullin Tree
I am researching the MULLIN, ELLSWORTH, BAILEY, and MC DONALD, WATERMAN, STARBUCK, DENNISON, THROOP and BROWN names in the Michigan, New York, Indiana, and Maine area. Also WIECZOREK, SZCZEPANIK, SYREK, and WYCOSKI (all spellings)in the Michigan area. Right now we are "stuck" on the Brown, Bailey, Dennison, Ellsworth, and Mullin name's. Without birth place's, it's hard to know where to start! A few facts: The STARBUCK's can be traced back to their arrival in the U.S. They, along with the Coffin's, Macy's, an a few other's, were the first settlers in Nantucket. While the first generation's are very well documented, I'm having trouble finding more info on the generation's in the 1800's. We know they were Quaker's, but did the family carry on the tradition in the 1800's? The WATERMAN's can also be traced back to their arrival. Again, we "lost" my GG-grandmother's brother, when he moved to Iowa with his wife and daughter's. I'd love to find this family, I have picture's to share! The BAILEY's were a prominant family in the Grand Rapid's, Michigan area in the late 1800's. They came from Sumerset,Niagra Co.,New York. They were part of the Underground RR. Family history says they were Quaker's. We are busy researching court records right now and have found out some interesting things from wills. The Bailey's are feature prominamtly in the History of Kentwood, MI. Sluman's diaries are often quoted in Kentwood's history book's. MULLIN was not the original surname, but no one knows what it was. All the records were lost in a fire (Kingman, Maine) sometime in the very late 1800's/ early 1900's. My G-Grandfather wasn't even sure where he was born, but knew that some family remained in Maine. This family had wanderlust and every generation moved. Several family members were "lost" because they "went West" and were never heard from again. WIECZOREK's and SZCZEPANIK's changed their names to Americanized spelling as soon as they could. The Wesorick's were carpenters and farmers in Poland, they still build houses in the Grand Rapid's, Michigan area. The Sepanick's were cabinent makers, my GG-grandfather worked as a finisher in a Grand Rapids furniture company.. after working as a circus cook when he first arrived in America. We recently recieved Naturalization papers for both and were lucky enough to find the place & dates of arrival, ship names, and Ports of Origin. Also, the Polish spelling of the town & place of birth. Nathan Jess MC DONALD lied about his age (15 yrs) and enlisted at the begining of the Civil War. When found out, he was discharge. He re-enlisted when he was of age and served with M Co. 7th Indiana Cav. Update...I finally found Nathan's birth place and parents! And a very kind cousin! This is a joint project with my Mom. She has been "rooting" around for years.I am just now putting the names into the computer to get it on-line, so if something looks or sounds familiar, let me know. I still have thousands of names to get entered. I will update this as I get them into my data base.We are willing to share what we have.I would like to add a word of thanks to Sue Waterman, Don Barber, Fred Knapp, and Ralph Throop for their help in expanding my tree. All work on the mentioned surnames that is pre-1800's (and some later) is theirs. | Diggin' Round theMullin Tree Updated May 17, 2012 |
