Coyt was in the US Navy during WWII and served aboad a PT boat in the So. Pacific. He was in the battles for Iwo Jima, Okinawa and others. He said the battles were frightening but the hurricanes were even more frightening. In 1947 he was severly burned when a bucket of gasoline exploded during a break time while working on a work over crew in Wayne County oil field. He survived the burns, but died in November 1948 from what was diagnosed as a brain tumor.
