Last Will & Testament of Jacob Houk

In the name of God amen. Jacob Houk senior of the Township of Union and County of Huntingdon in the state of Pennsylvania, yeom and being in perfect health of body and of sound mind and memory and understanding, ( Blessed be god for the same) but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my last will and & Testament in manner and form following to wit. Principally and first of all I commend my immortal soul to God who gave it, and my body to the earth to be buryed in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named, and as to such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased god to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose of the same in the following manner to wit, first of all it is my will that all my just debts and funeral charges be fully paid and satisfied then I give and devise to all my children to wit William Houk Saphia McClean Jacob Houk, Michael Houk and Anthony Houk the sum of one dollar to each of them, then it is my will that my wife Mary receives all my goods and chattels in my possession except the cash and obligations belonging to me, and also it is my will that the remainder of my estate be put to Interest, and that my said wife receive all the Interest arising therefrom for and during her natural life and if the Interest should not be sufficient for the support of my sd wife, she shall be allowed out of the principle a sufficiency at the discretion of my executor, and at my said wifes decease the said remainder of my estate is to be divided between my said children share and share alike, and it is further my will that my executor herinafter named shall have a resonable compensation for his trouble and expences, and lastly I nominate constitue and appoint my son Jacob Houk to be the executor of the my will hereby revoking all other will legacies and bequests by me heretofore made and declaring this and no other to be my last will and Testament, In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hond and seal the second day of July in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and six. 1806. Following is from the Commemorative Biographical Encyclopedia of Juniata Valley by Runk 1897, pg 296

      Bryson Houck, retired farmer, Trouch Creek, was born in Tod, then Union, township, Huntingdon county, Pa., May 17, 1813, son of Michael and Sarah (Clark) Houck. His grandfather, JACOB HOUCK, was a native of England, came to this country and for many years conducted the mill owned by Oliver Cook. He died there.


Following is from Historty of Huntingdon and Blair Counties, Pennsylvania by Africa 1883, pg 368

      Pioneers.....John Plummer, whose descendants reside in Todd, came to Lincoln between 1760 and 1770, John Edwards located in this township in 1785. JACOB HOUCK purchased the farm which then included the site of Cook's grist-mill in 1786.

Following is fromf the Commemorative Biographical Ecycolpedia of Juniata Valley by Runk 1897, pg 296

      Bryson Houck, retired farmer, Trouch Creek, was born in Tod, then Union, township, Huntingdon county, Pa., May 17, 1813, son of MICHAEL and Sarah (Clark) Houck............... MICHAEL HOUCK was born in Maryland, and spent the major part of his life at farming in Tod, then Union, township. He was also a mason. He was married in Tod township to Sarah, daughter of Neal Clark, who, being and early settler in the county, had many experiences with the Indians. Their chidren were: Lloyd; Neal; Lazarus; William; Bryson; Eilzabeth; Margaret; and Eliza. Mr. Houck was a Whig. He belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church. He died on the well known Adam Keith farm in 1830, and his wife died August 19, 1861. Mr. Houck rendered valiant sevice for his country in the Revolutionary war.

Following is from the Commemorative Biographical Encyclopedia of Juniata Valley by Runk 1897, pg 297

      Benjamin F. Houck, deceased, was among the most respected citizens of Tod township, Huntingdon county, Pa. He was born in Cass township, son of Elijah an Delia (Corbin) Houck. His grandfather, WILLIAM HOUCK, was a native of Maryland, and pioneer settler of Tod township; he owned a coal mine on the present site of Robertsdale, in Carbon township. He came to Tod township in 1787, and erected a log-mill. He married Ellen Hall; their children were: Ross; Elijah; Washington; Adams; James; William; Sophia; Mrs. S. Sarter, christian name unrecorded; Mrs. Croft, christian name unrecorded; Antha (Mrs. M. Green), of Johnstown, Pa. Their home taking fire, Mrs. William Houck was burned to death. Mr. Houck died at the age of eighty-two.
