The Heap name originates from Robert de Hep born about 1170 who founded what is now known as Heap, a village between Rochdale and Heywood, Lancashire. From the original settlement descendants of de Hep(Hepe, Heipe, Heape and Heap) moved to the Rochdale, Rossendale, Oldham areas of Lancashire, the Mottram area of Derbyshire and the Staleybridge area of Cheshire. They lived in Oldham from the 1400's, mainly in the districts of Chadderton, Hollinwood where my descendants came from. | |
