8. Obituary Notice//Walton newspaper dated May 5, 1902, From Cannonsville Correspondent: Mrs. Fannie Pettingill died of pneumonia at the home of Miss Elizabeth Hoag on May 2. Friday the remains were taken to her home in Hancock, and the funeral was held Sunday. Mrs. Pettingill came here to spend a day or two and was taken sick the night of the same day she arrived. She was highly esteemed by all her friends and acquaintances. A son, two daughters, a abrother and sister are left to mourn her loss.

Obituary Notice//Walton newspaper undated, From Cannonsville Correspondent: Mrs. Nancy Carpenter of Cannonsville died Tuesday morning, July 25 after a long and lingering illness at the home of her brother, Jonas Frazier, aged 79 years. The funeral was largely attendeed Thursday at the M. E. church. Reverend H H Edwards preached the sermon. Burial was made in the village cemetery. Mrs. Carpenter was twice married, her first husband being Arnold Moore. A few years after his death she was united in marriage to Charles Carpenter who passed away many years ago. After his death she lived with her brother, mentioned assisted in caring for his motherless children. For the past few years, when her health failed she has been tenderly cared for by her brother and family. Aunt Nancy as she was familiarly called, was a kind neighbor and friend, a true Christian woman. Her brother, Jonas Frazier, and a number of nephews and neices are......(her the type is too faded to read).

Stephen Bennett, aged 76 years, 11 months, 19 days. Sister Bennett was born in New York state June 29, 1811, married her now bereaved husband February 11, 1830, in New York state. Four children were born to them, two of them dead. Only one was present at the funeral. Deceased came to Illinois in 1844, to Iowa in 1856, to this county in 1872. In July, 1886, she joined the M. E,. church, was baptized by Bro D S Main in the Mathews grove. She was an aged lady, not able to attend church. I visited her several times during her illness, and found her ready to go when the Lord called for her. She desired to be with the Lord. She was an intense sufferer during this last winter. The writer attended the funeral at the house, after which we laid her away in the Olliver cemetery, May 19, 1888, to await the Resurrection.
