Avedisian Avedisian, Vian John Sr., 83, of Fort Lauderdale passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2004. Vian, the son of the late John D. and Mary (Heditsian) Avedisian, was born in Providence and grew up in Cranston, RI. After graduation from Cranston High School, he served in the Army during W.W.II. After the war he resumed working in the family trucking business until his move to South Florida in 1960. He had a long and successful career with the Mangurian's Furniture Chain and as a purchasing agent for Drexel Properties. Vian was an extremely sociable, outgoing person who was deeply involved in helping all Armenians with housing and job searches, and in promoting the Armenian culture through his extensive community service activities. While still in RI, he was a member of the St. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church; and was one of the originators of the Armenian Christian Youth Organization of America. He was also a founding member who was instrumental in building the St. David Armenian Apostolic Church in Boca Raton; and held the distinction of being one of the Church's Godfathers. He served for many years on their Parish Council, and was a Diocesan Delegate. He was active in the Knights of Vartan Hayasdan, Lodge #42, and the Armenian General Benevolent Union; where in 1988, he was honored as being the Outstanding Armenian in Florida. Additionally, His Holiness Karekin I awarded him the worldwide, prestigious St. Nersess Shanorhali Medal and Pontifical Encyclical. He also served on the Tivan for years and rose to the rank of Vice Commander. Furthermore, he was a Godfather at the St. Mary Armenian Apostolic Church of Cooper City. Mr. Avedisian leaves behind his beloved wife Gertrude Mary (Shadbegian) of 52 years, his son Vian John, Jr., his daughter Arden Ann and four grandchildren: Margaux, Joseph, and Adrian Avedisian and Lily Lindquist. He was the brother of Dr. John D. Avedisian, of South Kingston, RI and the late Anna Yessian, Emma Mardirosian, Avedis J., Manoog J., Mary Najarian and Rose Kolligian. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he has touched. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Wednesday, May 19th from 5 to 9 P.M. Services will be Thursday, May 20th at 1:00 P.M. at St. David Armenian Church with entombment to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Pompano Beach.
