I am researching the Smith Family from Hale County, AL. Gustin Smith, Sr, the patrich of our family, was born in December 1850 in North Carolina. He and his family were brought to the area known after 1867 as Hale County. The county was created by taking parts of Marengo, Sumter and Greene counties. Gus met and married Jones Huckabee. Jones, the matrich of the family, was born in January 1857. Together they parented 15 children: Lony, Rufus, Baker, Annie, Mary, Virginia, Thomas, Alice, Taylor, Richard, Gus Jr., Louvenia, Dolly, Sadie, and Stella. The sole living child, Sadie Love Smith Roberson at age 106, resides in a nursing home in Tuscaloosa, AL. They now have descendants through the sixth generation spread across these United States. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share the information that I have. To insure that their legacy and rich heritage never dies, a Smith Family Reunion is held every two years. The next reunion is scheduled for July 25-28,2001 in Tuscaloosa. |
