Descendants of Great Great Great Grandfather Heenan

26. CATHERINE4 HEENAN (THOMAS3, PATRICK2, GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER1) was born Feb 11, 1891 in Borrisokane, Tipperary, Ireland, and died Aug 01, 1974 in Terryglass, Tipperary, Ireland. She married PATRICK HEENAN, son of WILLIAM HEENAN and JULIA HOGAN.

Notes for C
ATHERINE HEENAN:
The tenth child born to Thomas and Nora (Cahalan) Heenan was Catherine or “Katie”. Katie was born in 1891 and was sponsored in her baptism by John Cahalan and Mary Heenan. Katie married Patrick Heenan a first cousin. Patrick was the son of William and Julia (neé Hogan) Heenan. Katie was the daughter of Thomas and Nora Heenan (nee Cahalan). Katie was known for her singing and piano playing. She and her brother James were very close and would perform at the local dances. It was told to me by Katie's daughter, Mary of St. Dominic’s Road, that after Katie married her first cousin the town shunned her because of the fact that they were such close relations. Therefore, she and Patrick moved to Australia. Two years later, after the birth of their first child Patrick, Katie and her husband Patrick decided to move back to Ireland. Their passage was upon a ship bound first for New York and then onward to Ireland. Katie, knowing her favored brother James was living in New York, wired him to ask him to meet them at the port. She told him that if she heard back from him by wire aboard the ship, she would disembark the ship while it was docked in New York to visit with him. Having heard no word from James upon their arrival in New York Port, she and Patrick decided to stay aboard the ship. The ship was at sea no more than 15 minutes when Katie received a wire from the ship's captain. The wire read... "I will meet you at the dock, James". Katie heart-sick at missing her brother later told her daughter Mary,..."it was a good thing we didn't disembark the ship, for I would have never left New York or my brother James". Patrick and Katie Heenan sired five children Patrick, Liam (1924), Thomas (1927-1968), James (?-1997), and Mary (1934 -). The eldest son, Patrick married a woman with the surname of Ryan. They had no children. Liam joined the priesthood and goes by the name Father Adrian. Father Adrian is currently living at St. Malachy’s Priory in Dundulk, County Louth, Ireland. The next child, Thomas never married and died young at 41 years. The forth child, James was known to be very slow. The story goes that Mary would send James into town for a loaf of bread. While in town, James would go to the public house for a chat. After many hours James would come strolling up the road, with no bread, nor money. James never married and remained living with his younger sister Mary nearly all of his life. James died in September 1997 from cancer. The youngest child of Patrick and Katie (Heenan) Heenan was Mary. Mary has never married. She lived at home and took care of her parents and her younger brother James until their deaths. Mary has been suffering with multiple sclerosis for the past 25 years. In 1970, following the death of her mother Katie, Mary and her brother Father Adrian, had a new house built on the Terryglass property known as St. Dominic’s Road. The house still stands next door to the Terryglass Church Rectory, overlooking the Lough Derg. The house had all the new amenities including central heating and plumbing. This house accommodated Mary and James and their father Patrick. Following Patrick’s death in 1974, Mary and James lived at St. Dominic’s together until in 1997, when Mary could no longer care of James. James moved into a “Board and Care” home in Terryglass town. Just after James died in September, Mary sold the house to a couple from Dublin and moved into the Bushy Park Nursing Home in Borrisokane where she is currently living. Mary now 64 years of age is lovely and still very spry. According to the registry of birth and death records, Thomas Heenan died on April 14, 1930. His wife Hanora "Nora Cahalan" Heenan died at the age of 63 on July 23, 1915.
