Notes for Benjamin Williams: Benjamin Williams was married twice, first to Rebecca Lockhart who died sometime between 1754 and 1760. They had two children. He married Margaret Lockhart, his first wife's sister arounnd 1760 and they had 8 children. It is suspected that Rebecca and Margaret are the daughters of a Aaron Lockhart (Lockert), a neighbor in the Shoals area.
Benjamin's major landholdings were in Northwest Chester County, SC, near the Broad River (called Lockhart Shoals). There are numerous deeds of Benjamin's in the Chester County Courthouse.
Benjamin Williams may have lived in Ireland prior to coming to America as determined by a Williams bible record found at the University of South Carolina Carolinian Library which states that the information in it came from Ara Ann (Kitty) Williams VanHorn (daughter of William Lafayette Williams, granddaughter of Eli Williams, and great-grandaughter of William Williams). She was also a sister to Arthur B. Williams. The record has information on Benjamin's son William and his descendants but also mentions that William was born in Ireland. It also has details on Eli and Mary Hollingsworth Truesdale Williams and their children.
The information in the above paragraph was obtained from David L. Todd, Jr. who has done extensive research on the Williams family.
