My father's, or Heitman, side of the family is primarily from Bollinger County in Missouri while my mother's, or Rhoads, side is from Muhlenberg County in Kentucky. Both families came to the United States from Germany with the Rhoads (aka Rodt or Rode) family arriving at Philadelphia in 1737 while the Heitman (aka Heitmann) family arriving at New Orleans in 1846. There is a Rhoads family reunion that is held every year in Browder, Kentucky, at the Browder Missionary Baptist Church. I am particularly interested in any relatives that fought in the Civil War no matter which side they were on. |
