Find Family
Welcome to the Heinish and Berlowe family tree home page. The process is just beginning, so follow our progress.

The Heinish side will be somewhat difficult. Julian Heinish, my grandfather, emigrated to the United States in the 1920's after a four-year stop in Cuba. It's the stuff of TV movies. Born in Lvov, Poland, he met Eva Melamed as she was emigrating from the Ukraine with her sister and passing through Poland (she may have been hitchhiking). Because he was in Poland's military reserve, as all males 18-28 were, he wasn't allowed to leave Poland. In order to leave, he obtained false documents, indicating he was 29 (he was really 24). Eva, whose last name magically turned into Miller in the U.S., entered the U.S. while Julian emingrated to Cuba (she had a U.S. sponsor; he didn't). After a year of letter writing, Eva traveled to Havana to marry Julian and then returned to the U.S. -- pregnant with my Uncle Murray. My grandfather met his eldest son nearly three years later. He rarely discussed his life prior to Cuba. His sister emigrated to Argentina.

The Berlowe family tree will be easier to research, but still time consuming. A written family tree exists detailing much of the family history dating back to 1500's Poland, when a group of Rabbis martyred themselves to pay for crimes allegedly committed by Jews. Entering all of the information into the computer will take some time. (Reading the handwriting may also prove difficult.)

Any information will be appreciated! We'd also love to receive some photos!
