Her work was done long before the computer and the internet. ***************************************************************** REMEMBERING ROBERT EDWARD WHITE My brother, BOB WHITE, died Monday, January 14, 2002 at Wesley Hospital, Wichita, KS. Bob was born September 10, 1943 in Mexico, MO. He began his education in Mexico at Mrs. Gilman's kindergarten, followed by first and second grade in a one room country school house. In Wichita, KS, he attended Caldwell Elementary School, John Marshall Junior, and was 1961 graduate of North High School. He attended Wichita State University where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. Bob is survived by his mother, his daughter, his sister, three aunts, ten cousins, two neices, one nephew, and many, many dear friends. Bob had a passion for life, he loved music, to sail and play golf. **************************************************************** MY ANCESTORS My father Ernest WHITE grew up in Wilson county. His mother Lenora HILLIX was born in Leavenworth, Kansas, the Hillix family came from Ireland by way of Kentucky. We had always thought that his father Judson WHITE was born in Watertown, New York, but my father's birth certificate revealed that Judson was born in Syracuse, New York. His grandparents WHITE and THOMPSON are thought to be from Ireland. My mother's family first arrived in Wilson county, Kansas in 1859. Rev Windsor CRAIG and wife Rachel WILLIAMS brought their family from Fayette county Illinois. Hopson WILLOUGHBY born in Warren county Kentucky, came to Wilson county from Wayne county Iowa with his wife Malinda WILLIAMS, also born in Warren county Kentucky and their sons James and David. William GRAY and Jonas Gray SMITH came from Hardin county Kentucky. Other Kentucky names include MILLER, BEELER, PRICE, SUMMITT, WALL, SWANK, MARLOW. Addie PROUTY came from Fond du Lac Wisconsin, her parents Alva PROUTY and Emma FANCHIER were born in New York. Before Kentucky in 1790 we find the following families in Maryland BEALL, GRAY, MARLOW, MAGRUDER, WILLETT, GRIFFITH, PRICE. ***************************************************************** My husband has his roots in Vinland, Douglas county, Kansas. His surnames include HEINRICH, HOSKINSON, and NICHOLS. ***************************************************************** October 23, 2000 I finally made contact with my cousins, the children of George White. May, 2001 I finally made contact with my cousin, the daughter of Don White. George and Donald, younger brothers of my father. I am still searching for decendants of my great grandparents: David and Addie PROUTY WILLOUGHY, William and Philena CRAIG GRAY, Charles and Jeanetta WILSON HILLIX BRANSON(especially the Branson childlren), these three couple raised their families in Wilson County Kansas. ***************************************************************** This work is a gift to my children and grandchildren. I am indebted to my mother, aunts, and many other family members for sharing their pictures and memories. If only I had started this thirty years ago! I will gladly share my work, please e-mail me at slwh40@aol.com or sndyhnrch@aol.com. So much to learn, so little time, Like life, this is a work in progress.............. Much of this is yet to be proved ~ this work is under construction ~ and like our roads and highways ~ |
