Cpl. Lewis W. Satchwell, who re-enlisted in 1862 and was assigned to the 87th NY Volunteers, also known as the Brooklyn Rifles, was killed in the battle of Fair Oaks, VA, May 31, 1862, at the age of nineteen, by a "gunshot wound". His original Civil War, Veterans' Administration grave marker was corrected in 1997 after documents were filed with the VA. He was originally buried as L.W. Duvate on the battlefield in 1862 because he changed his name upon re-enlistment. In 1997 the gravestone's original surface with his incorrect name was resurfaced and engraved with the correct information relating to his name (Lewis W. Satchwell) and death.
