A page from the Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, Volume 3, with history of the Hanna, commissioned in the name of U.S.M.C. Pvt. William T. Hanna, killed at the Solomon Islands during the battle for Guadalcanal, October, 1942. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross,(highest military award next to Medal of Honor) and the Purple Heart. Billy Hanna was my mother's cousin.
