| Helmeczi, Dul, Simon, Nema, Szabad, Paladi, Schwarckopf (Svarczkopf), Mezei, Revai, Hucz, Fircher, Jurcsik (Gyurcsik), Czunbil, Mekker, Hutzel, and Wagner (Vagner). Mihaly Helmeczi, from Mezo Madaras, Maros Torda, County, Hungary received his nobility title in 1655. My paternal relatives, the Simons have lived in Turterebes since the 1500's. My maternal grandmother's family, the Svarczkopf's came from Nagymajteny, Hungary (today Moftinu Mare, Romania) about 1723. The family may have originally come from Wurttemberg, Baden Baden or Bavaria. The Mezei and Jurcsik (Gyurcsik) families may have been Greek Catholic and originated from Ruthenian families from Maramaros, who came to Turterebes in the 17th century. I visited Hungary in May, 2002 and in June, 2006 with a trip to Satu Mare, Turulung and Halmeau, Romania. If you are searching for relatives in Turterebes, please contact me. |
