This web page represents the efforts to find and document the history of the families of Clarence and Ruth Forslund Snyder along with Anton Gunnar and Anna Marie Johnson Swanson.

Clarence and Ruth Forslund Snyder lived in Chicago Illinois. Their children were Myriel, James, John, Robert, Richard and Jerry.
Ruth immigrated from Sweden with her parents August and Ida Forslund around 1894.She was born Oct. 29, 1889. I am in the process of trying to locate more information about her birthplace in Sweden and the exact date and place of their arrival in the United States. I believe that her parents divorced at some point but am unsure. Her siblings were Charles, Ernest, Edith and Cecelia (Swarthout,George).

Clarence was born of William and Bertha Letchious Snyder in Indiana March 10, 1890. His siblings were Inez Margaret and Eleanor Mabel (Church). Clarence worked for the telephone company in Illinois. His father, William, was born in Indiana and was an insurance agent per the 1900 US census. Bertha was born in Germany in January 1868. They were married approx 1889 and I am trying to find out the details of their marriage - where, the exact date and her parents names. I do not have the information on her arrival to the US which occurred approx 1871 per the 1900 US Census. William was born of William and Elizabeth Snyder. His siblings were Willimena, John, Catherine, Elizabeth, Sarah, Daniel, Margaret and Carolina. Daniel and Margaret may have been twins as they were born the same year (1875) per the 1880 US Census. William and Elizabeth were both born in Baden (Germany?)-William around 1835 and Elizabeth around 1840.

Anton Gunnar Emanuel and Anna Marie Johnson Swanson were both born in Sweden. Anton was born Dec 14, 1894, in Sweden but I am unsure of the name of the town- could be Smoland although that may be a region and not a town name. It is much more difficult to trace the history when you get to Swedish records and I am in the process of learning how to access and understand those records. Anton's parents were Sven Swanson and Inga Tross Swanson. His siblings were Edwin, Eric, Frank and Ellen. Anton arrived in the US in 1912 or 1913. I am unsure if he arrived through Ellis Island or another port and would like any information regarding his arrival.I have one possibility that he arrived at Ellis Island via the Oceanic in 1913. He originally working for G A Johnson Ice then started Swanson Brothers Ice with his brothers Eric and Ed. He married Anna Johnson who he met on the ice route April 7, 1921 in Chicago. I am in the process of getting a copy of the marriage certificate, but would like any further information. Their children are Ellen, Margaret Lorraine and Joan.

Anna arrived in the US around 1914. She was born in Sweden in either Billarp or Almhult on Dec. 9, 1896 (both Town names are per the memories of Ellen, Lorraine and Joan). However, upon researching these names, I am unable to find them in the Swedish maps or town listings. I would appreciate any documentation regarding the correct birthplace. Anna's siblings were Albert and Martin. Albert lived in the US for a time but returned to Sweden after a hunting accident left him blind. I am unable to determine if Anna arrived at Ellis Island or Boston or another port. I have searched the Ellis Island files and there are many Anna Johnsons, Johansons, Johanssons (etc.) and none of them perfectly match what I know about her.Anna worked as a cook/servant for a wealthy family in NY and learned English alongside their children from their tutor. She eventually came to Chicago as a cook/servant where she met and married Anton. Her parents are Franz and Blenda Johnson (maiden name unknown) from Sweden.

Any information that you can share would be greatly appreciated. I am also happy to share what information I have.
