This is the home of the Graham, Hellerud, Donald and Ottman families who came to America from England, Norway, Germany and Scotland among others. Some were early settlers of New England via the Mayflower, the Anne, and the Hercules. Some were early colonists, reverends, landowners and governors of the Plymouth Colony. Some were United Empire Loyalists during the American Revolutionary War who re-settled in Ontario, Canada. Others fought for America’s independence.

Some were dissenters fleeing from religious persecution, many were adventurers, and some were leaders in government. Some were captured by Indians while others were American Indians. Some were royalty, while others served them.

Both ancestors and descendants show similarities in how they live: with a spirit of adventure, a rugged individuality, a strong sense of morality, a personal code of conduct, and a willingness to fight for causes. Many live—for better or for worse—with stubborn determination and obstinacy. Many would fight for a cause in a war, but disliked violence. Most lived long lives for their time.
