2. REUBEN2 BATES (WILLIAM1) was born 1760 in Culpeper County, Virginia, and died 1813. He married ANNA ROEBUCK November 05, 1795, daughter of WILLIAM ROEBUCK and MARY CLARK.
Notes for REUBEN BATES:
Reuben Bates was a farmer of considerable means and property, which in the inventory of his estate lists considerable pieces of property, both real and personal. His will was written shortly before his death and proven at Court Madison Co., Virginia. A copy of this will is attached. Anna survived her husband for a number of years.
WB 8:232 lists the administration of the Estate of Anna roebuck Bates, her estate being divided equally between her issue. Her son, Simeon, was appointed Administrator of her estate and made distribution of her estate as directed by law at that time.
Will was proven 1814 (Feb 25) WB 3:72, 1813-1820.
Reuben probably lived in his father's household until he was married.
N.B. Reference book "Tradition and History of the Bates Family of Virginia" dated 1911 by Ed F. Bates, Lewis was claimed as son of Reuben Bates. However, this is not true. William Bates had a son named Lewis.
Notes for ANNA ROEBUCK:
The brother of Anna Roebuck, William, signed the marriage bond, as recorded in Madison County, Va., records still on file at Madison Courthouse, Va. The marriage lists the minister performing the service as Rev. George S. Eve, Baptist minister, first minister of Old F. T. Baptish church, then in Culpeper County, Va., the present F. T. Baptist Church is now located in Rappahannock Co., Va. was reformed about 1831 per the present records now available from the Clerk of the Church.
