-------------------------------------
Hans Jacob Brubacher, b. 9 Oct 1631, Hirzel. d. bef 1683, Ibersheim, Germany. He was an Anabaptist.
In 1646 he began his apprenticeship as a shoemaker at Männedorf. With his wife and father he moved to Ibersheim in the Pfalz from Alsace before 1661. He may have arrived in Ibersheim about 1658, shortly before his marriage as his wife was already living at Ibersheim in 1657, according to Richterswil, Zurich record.
He signed a letter in 1661 with his brother Hans Heinrich as hereditary tenants living at Ibersheim to Elector Karl Ludwig asking for help in obtaining their inheritance of their mother Anna Pfister in Wädenswil. The Zurich authorities denied their request because they would not deny their Anabaptist religion. Hans Jacob had two children by 1661 and at least one other daughter Anna who was born in about 1669 which would indicate that he probably had more children as well.
He married Klianna Hiestand, daughter of Hans Hiestand in about 1658, probably at Ibersheim. She was born about 1638. Hans Jacob and Klianna may have had children born up until about 1678, when Klianna was age about 40. Hans Jacob was not listed on the 1683 tenant list for Ibersheim. Apparently he was dead by 1683.

at the Darmstadt State Archives in Germany.

11 Jan 1683:
A new lease contract is settled. It is given, that the new leaseholders are also the previous leaseholders, so we may suppose that it was a renewal of old lease contracts. Their names are: "Heinrich Näff, Hans Jacob Brübach, Hans Jacob Furrer, Heinrich Gochenauer, Conrad Hiestandt, Jacob Dänlinger, Hans Leutweiler, Peter Oppman, Heinrich Reiff, Ullrich Hagmans".
The name Brubach should be Brubacher, Perqui should be Berki, Stauffert should be Stauffer, Führer should be Forrer and Kochenauer should be Gochenauer.

Either our Hans Jacob and an estimated date of
death is incorrect -- or possibly son.Note
that our Hans Jacob's wife was a Hiestand
another key family name in this migration
-----------------------------------------------
Two groups migrated from the Palatinate for Friedrichstadt in 1693. Almost all of them returned to the Palatinate, mostly by 1698. Only Hans Conrad Egli, Hans Gritter (Grutter), and the Strickler family remained in the Friedrichstadt area permanently.
The members of the first group were mainly from the Ibersheim area. By church letter, dated 13 October 1693 and signed by Christian Pliem of Heppenheim, Hans Meyer of Rudelsheim and Hans Müller of Ibersheim.
1. Hans Jacob Hiestand, minister, with wife and child. He was a widower with one child when he married Anna Beyers at Friedrichstadt, 29 Apr 1694. Anna was probably the daughter of Samuel Beyer. Hans Jacob returned to the Palatinate 9 Apr 1698 with his wife.
4. Hans Jacob Brubacher with wife and child. He died at Friedrichstadt and was buried there 30 May 1697. One of his children was buried 7 Jun 1696. Another child was buried 29 Nov 1696.
5. Hans Strickler with wife. His wife was buried 25 Mar 1697. His child was buried 20 Jun 1697. He returned to the Palatinate with his wife Anna, 9 Apr 1698.
11. Hans Conrad Strickler. He stayed at Friedrichstadt.
12. Jacob Strickler.
13. Jacob Mueller.
16. Hans Heinrich Hiestand. He was living at Lamist, Holland until 31 October 1694, when he went to Friedrichstadt. He married at Friedrichstadt, 20 Feb 1698, Maria Gochenaur (# 18 Below). He returned to the Palatinate 9 Apr 1698.
17. Maria Hiestand.
The other group left by letter dated 26 October 1693, and signed by Christian Pliem of Heppenheim, Hans Meyer of Rudesheim, Hans Heinrich Bar, Rudolf Bletcher and Christian Bechtel.
Postscript:
27. Martin Meyli, widower with five children. He married Anna Rutgen at Friedrichstadt, 14 Jan 1694. He bought land called "Tamkenbaly", at Stapelholm, just east of Friedrichstadt, 29 Nov 1694.
33. Anna Hiestand is not mentioned in either letter. She was baptized at Friedrichstadt 11 Jul 1695. She may be the daughter of Hans Jacob Hiestand.
Other Mennonites who were known to be in Holland in the mid to late 1690's; Jacob Denlinger of Ibersheim who was reported to be in Holland in 1695 and Ulrich Stauffer, the brother of Hans Stauffer (b. 1644) of Ibersheim, Germany was in Friesland, Holland.
