Chicago: Biographical Publishing Company, Page 619
His father, who was born in Rockingham County, Va., in 1806, was reared in his native county, and there carried on his trade as a carpenter in connection with farming until his removal in 1831 to Ohio, the journey being made with teams. He bought a tract of land in Bethel Township, on which stood a log house, in which he and his family took up their abode. In the intervals of pursuing his trade he gave his attention to improving a farm, and increased its size by the purchase of land adjoining. He lived there in peace and comfort, respected by all who knew him, until death called him hence in 1855, when he was scarcely past the meridian of life. His wife, who was a native of the same county as himself, was a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Harshbarger, also died on the home farm, her death occurring in December, 1860. They reared a family of five children, named as follows: John, Elizabeth, Henry and Susan (twins) and Annie.

My gggggrandfather was Henry HARSHBARGER who was married to an
Elizabeth. Their daughter, Barbara was born in Rockingham Co., VA in
about 1800. She married a Jacob SNELL of Rockingham Co on Nov 28, 1826.
and they moved to Miami Co. Ohio in 1831. Their daughter Anna married
John HUBER (of New Carlisle, Clark Co, Ohio) on 11 Jan 1859 in Miami Co.
Ohio. The family is/was Mennonite/Church of the Brethern. the above
information is all from family records, with marriage dates confirmed in
the IGI.

I received the following from another source:

"Henry Harshbarger lived in Rockingham /co. VA, probably in the vicinity
of Bridgewater, before coming to Ohio. His wife's name was Elizabeth
Rinehart, 1775-1833. They moved here in 1830 with Daniel Arnold and
Peter Filbrun. (Peter was married to Henry's daughter Elizabeth.) Henry
Harshbarger bought land on Shull Road in Wayne Township in Montgomery
Co. and started a farm. He later sold this farm to Daniel Arnold. This
farm is now a metropark called Carriage Hill Farm."

I have seen some other postings that lead me to believe that Barbara is
possibly the ggranddaughter of Christian and Caroline Funk but no one
has said "here is the evidence"

The Snell family, which is of German extraction, had its origin in America in John Adam Snell, who emigrated from Germany, on the ship "Robert and Alice" of Dublin, Walter Goodman, commander, and landed at Philadelphia Sept. 11, 1738, there being 103 other male passengers on board.

John Snell, a descendant of John Adam and grandfather of John H., was a resident of Berks county for some years, and was a man of prominence and wealth. In 1787, 1795, 1796, 1807, 1808 and 1812 he purchased properties in Reading, where he then lived, but prior to 1816 he removed to New Haven township, Montgomery county.

Jacob Snell, son of John and father of John H., was born May 3, 1816, in New Hanover township, Montgomery county, and obtained a good education in the public schools of that vicinity.

In 1853 David Landis and David Shelabarger moved out, and Joseph Arnold and Jacob Snell were elected deacons.
