| I am currently trying to go back a little further on my family tree, and there are a few stumbling blocks I have encountered. Any information, especially ancestry, on any of these people would be greatly appreciated. 1.) MERTES, GUTFERS - Germany to Minnesota Johann (John) Mertes b. Circa 1823 in Germany d. 11 December 1888 in Minnesota married: Anna Maria Gutfers b. 1825 in Germany d. 18 Decemeber 1899 in Minnesota Children: John J. Mertes m. Agnes Horsch Nicholas P. Mertes m. Johanna Rassier Mary Mertes m. Peter Spaniol 2.) HORSCH, ZIRBES - Wisconsin and Minnesota John Horsch b. Circa 1820 d. 18 January 1894 in Minnesota married: Elizabeth Zirbes b. Circa 1827 in Minnesota d. 27 September 1908 in Saint Joseph, Minnesota Child: Agnes Horsch m. John J. Mertes 3.) BAART, DIERINGS - The Netherlands Pieter Baart and Dina Dierings were born and married in the Netherlands, and had a daughter Elisabeth, who married Kryn Van Seters (in Paterson, New Jersey). 4.) BOLONIS, VAN SETERS - New Jersey and Michigan Dominic Bolonis (or maybe Bologno, Bolognese, etc.) b. Circa 1900 in New Jersey d. Several Decades ago married to: Adrianna "Jennie" Van Seters b. 1899 in New Jersey They had two children. They divorced Circa 1924, Jennie moved to Michigan with the children and Dominic moved back to New Jersey. Does anyone know what happened to Dominic after that? 5.) WEGLARZ and PILARZ - Poland to Michigan Franciszek Józef (Frank) Weglarz b. 9 October 1861 in Poland d. 20 October 1945 in Rollin, Michigan married: Katherine Pilarz b. Circa 1869 d. 2 October 1933 in Melvindale, Michigan She was the daughter of Simon Pilarz m. Katherine ? (d. Circa 1879) Katherine Pilarz's death certificate lists her place of birth as "Kenty", Poland. I think this may be "Katy". Her children say she was born around Auchwitsz (Oswiecm). (That was Austrian in the late 1800s.) The closest "Katy" to Oswiecm is Katy Opolska. 6.) CHOWANIEC, GABOYS, CZUBAJ - Poland to Michigan Jakób "Jacob" Chowaniec b. 28 December 1876 in "Libisz", Poland d. 17 February 1935 in Detroit, Michigan His parents, Martin Chowaniec and Helen Gaboys, were also born in Libisz. married: Katarzyna "Catherine" Czubaj b. 15 February 1879 in Poland d. 30 April 1955 in Detroit, Michigan 7.) FRANKLIN, CHEROKEE - Madison County & Environs, North Carolina and Tennessee Glumdaclitch (her name - from Gulliver's Travels) was a Cherokee woman also known as Mary (or Polly) Stevens/Franklin. She cohabitataed with several gentlemen, including Willard Franklin and Solomon Stanton. Her children were: William Duckworth "Duck" Franklin (b. 1797) m. Nancy Bowman Rhoda Franklin (b. 1797) m. Charles B. Hensley George Washington "Rock" Franklin, Senior (b. 1801) m. (1) Nancy Riddle m. (2) Elizabeth Bowman It is thought that William and Rhoda were twins, and that Solomon Stanton was the father of some of Glumdaclitch's children. ~~~~~~ I would appreciate any help you could offer, enjoy my reports, and feel free to email me. |
