Starling fought at Shiloh on Confederate side under Col. John D. Martin, 2nd Confederate Regiment under B.General John Bowen 2nd Brigate under B.General Breckinridge. Fought in area east of Peach Orchard and Bloody Pool. Starling died in a runaway team accident in which son John survived. Starling come to Al to work in timber industry. He took $50 to enlist in Confederate army for someone else. Starling was severly injured at Shiloh (4/7/1862) and was discharged. After he was discharged, Starling met Rebecca when she and her mother came into the general store where Starling was working. Within the week, he called on her at her home; she was young and still playing with her doll on the front porch of their Fort Payne, Al home. Birthdate may be 1832; this is date on tombstone. (note the age reduces 1 year each in most censuses) Starling lived in a boarding house in Jackson Co,AL in 1860
Burried at Harmony Church,abt 6 or 7 mile so of Section, AL. The family farm in Al was sold to Albert Little. There was a cave on the farm and it is located 5 or 6 miles south of Section, AL and Harmony Church is 2 miles from farm.[hendren10.FTW]
