William Henry Briggs (son of Chana Briggs and Martha Reeder)260, 261 was born May 10, 1842 in Union Co, SC262, 263, and died January 14, 1902 in Little Rock, AR264, 265. He married Eleanor Evaline Bishop on February 25, 1866266, daughter of Harmon Bishop and Mary Kelly Williams.

WHB enlisted 10/18/1861 Co B 19th AR Confederate Infranty (Dawson's)..Private to Sargent Major. He was at Camp Douglas,IL on 2/8/1863, captured at Ark Post 1/11/1863. At hospital, Tunnell Hill, Ga 7/2/1863; returned to duty 7/23/1863. He would not hold the Col's horse @ Missionary Bridge @ Ringo because he wanted to get into the action (as told by Hicks Tully, age 76 in 1983). William loved the smell of gunpowder and once sent a fellow to prison for trying to shoot him.
William and Eva moved to Little Rock in 1892. (dau May said they moved when she was 9). They moved back to Center Point, AR for 1 year at some point.

W.H. Briggs in Goodall's: In 1868 he and six others were arrested by the Reconstruction Militia and charged with Treason and Murder. Briggs was hauled off to Little Rock tied to a horse. He made a $25000 Bail later reduced to $15000 and later the case was dismissed becuase no grand jury would indict. See Howard County,AR history. When this happened it was when the carpet bagging reconstructionist came to town under martial law to whip the rebels in shape.
