My great uncle and aunt, Jesse and Effie Henley. They adopted me in 1935, when my mother died in childbirth. This was taken in 1942 at Love Studio in Murray, KY. Jesse was home on a visit from his job in Detroit, Michigan. My great aunt, myself, and my great grandmother Malinda Kesterson Henley lived at the corner of 4th and Poplar Streets in Murray while my great uncle worked in Detroit. Jobs in west Kentucky were very scarce, even during the war. We lived at this location for a little over one year, until I set the house on fire while experimenting with fire, matches, and candle wax in the bathroom.
