Family story is that William K. Jones was first tax collector of Lafayette County. He heard that vandals were planning to burn the courthouse after the Civil War and removed the records and hid them himself to save them. This comes from story told by his dtr. Rhoda to interviewer during depression (part of WPA oral history project).
