I wish to express my appreciation to all the faithful researchers who have shared their information so willing with all of us who ask. This information would undoubtedly be lost if not for such generous and dedicated people.

It is not proven that James is the progenitor of this line in America. This comes from a notarized letter from Norman Adolphus Mozley , a lawyer, who decended from Edward Mozley , the son of James Mozley who migrated from England. I received a copy from my cousin Rusty Mozley who received a copy from Raymond Mozley. Rusty and Raymond have done an enormous amt. of research and documentation. Raymond is now deceased. I just found THE GARTH FAMILY 1734-1986, Davis, 1988 at the library. There is a wealth of information concerning the Garths, Walter Mozley and some reference to Edward and their working relationship with Thomas Jefferson. I have found a James Mousley in Albemarle Co., VA living near Edward and Walter.
JULY 1999: IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH WARREN L. "TUCK" FORSYTHE who is researching the Moseley family of Virginia. His family is the Moseleys from the Norfolk line who do not seem to be related to my Mozleys. We found a will attributed to James Mosley dated 1760. Tuck ordered a microfilm of this will and found that it is MOBLEY rather than Mosley. He said that it is a handwritten document and it is definitely MOBLEY. I am quite dissapointed by this, but someday I hope to find our James Mozley.

This is verbatim from the booklet that I received from my cousin Rusty which was researched and prepared by Raymond G. Mozley with the assistance of various members of the different branches of the family, including Rusty Mozley.
THE MOZLEY FAMILY
We are greatly indebted to Mr. Norman Adolphus (N.A.) Mozley for his abstract of the Mozley family written 12-12-1893, which is probably the most accurate and most complete lineage record on the early generations of this line of Mozleys available. Through the use of this document as a guide it has been possible to accurately confirm many family connections.
A few errors, however, have been found, as listed below, but basically this document is very valuable.
1. Walter Mozley, brother of Edward, did not die childless. He had at least four children, Nancy Trent, Susannah McCabe, William, and James, according to his will proved 27 Oct. 1800 in Bedford Co., VA
2. It was Walter's daughter Nancy who married Obadiah H. Trent, not Walter's sister. Confirmed by Walter's Will.
3. Edward Mozley and his son Edward, Jr., known as Edwin Mozley, and who married Sarah Gaithright in Bedford Co., VA 21 July 1785, did move to Georgia where they stayed the rest of their lives. We have no evidence that they ever went to Missouri.
4. Sarah, daughter of Edward, Sr., married Jonathan Prather, not Praler.
Samuel G. Mozley, son of Edwin (Edward, Jr.) and Sarah Gathright Mozley, did marry Elizabeth Bankston, daughter of Lawrence and Nancy Henderson Bankston, in Wilkes Co., GA 29 Dec., 1808.
The father of Edward, Sr. and Walter Mozley is still unproven but it is hoped that some day we will find him to have been James as stated by N.A. Mozley in his Abstract.

Mozley is just one of the spellings of this name. If you are seriously looking for Mozley ancestors, you must look at all the possible spellings--Mousely, Moseley, Moseley, Mosely, Mozeley, Mozely, and Mozley. I have recently recieved verification of the Mozley spelling from Donna Mosley Benson who just found out that her father's birth certificate and one other sibling's is spelled with a "Z", all the others are spelled with an "S". Donna descends from James H. Mozley, the brother of Edward Mozley, Jr. who is known as Edwin. But I received a different spelling from a descendant of Walter Mozley-Janie Moseley Garraghty Jordan states that her family chose to spell their name MOSELEY! This spelling has been passed down in her family as a middle name. Janie knew that her ancestor was named Walter, and that his wife was named Sarah, but not that her maiden name was Garth and that they had lived in the same area for almost 300 years.
Robert "Bob" Mayse, another desc. of James Mozley, the Revolutionary War Soldier, also has a family history of the name being spelled Mozley. He was looking for that name, not knowing that his family had been here in America since the early 1700s. He had the family tradition that the correct spelling was Mozley. I grew up with this same tradition, that "if it's not spelled Mozley, it's not a relative." (This is funny since my grandfather had two brothers who splled it Mosley!) Bob also has the family tradition of the family coming here from England.
DNA testing has shown that the Mozley descendants from Edward Mozley who was in Amherst and Bedford Co., VA are not related to any other of the Moseley/Mosley families who were in VA at about the same time. We do not have any male descendants of Walter to test, but the genealogical research and oral family history of Norman Adolphus Mozley appears to be proven by the DNA results.
Ann LeDoux and Russell Mozley are Group Administrators. Ann descends from James H. Mozley and Keziah Turner who married in Campbel Co., VA. James is a son of Edward and Mary McDaniels (Last Name not proven) Mozley. Russell is descended from Edward Jr., known as Edwin and Sarah Gathright. The family was apart for almost 200 years years, after James, John, and Archibald Mozley moved into Bedford Co., TN. John moved north ending up in Illinois, James moved into Northwest Alabama, and Archibald has been lost to research. Edwin stayed in Georgia as did David.
There is some marriages in THREE CENTURIES OF MOZLEYS, Compiled by the Mozley Family Roots Center, Published by Three Centuries, 1181 S Parker RD # 105, Denver, Colo. 80231 that I can't account for and haven't confirmed. I don't know who this publisher is. I think that it is one of the groups that compiles data and sells it to people with a particular name. I have added a few notes of things that I have found that I haven't really been able to find enough to be sure that they are who I think that they are, except for John E. Mozley, who is John Edwin Mozley, son of Edward, Jr.
Archibald Mozley married Hixy Hight 7-9-1836 in Maury Co., TN Source: Mozley Family Records. (There was an Archibald Mosley-I don't remember the exact spelling of the name, altho it was a variation of Mozley), in Maury Co., TN in the 1820 Census. I don't know the age of that Archibald, but he could be Archibald Mozley, but I could not find enough info to really decide if he was the right person or if it was just coincidence. I don't know what these "Mozley Family Records" are, I have not been contacted by any desc. of this line.
Nancy L. Mozley married Thomas C. Crumley 3-3-1846 in Gilmer or Franklin Co., GA Source: Same as above.
(I think that this person may be related to the Samuel "Mozley" who was in Franklin Co., GA in the early 1800s. This Samuel was a RWS, I think, and I have not found any relationship to my Mozleys. The records are also in the spelling Moseley, and Mosley. I corresponded with a desc. of this line, who had ancestors who went to Cherokee Co., GA She said that there was a family history of being related to the Terrells. It may be that this Samuel IS related to our line of Mozleys, but I don't know how. Some of the Terrells were also in Franklin Co., GA as was David Mozley who married Elizabeth Terrell, but I think that David had already moved into Rabun Co., GA by 1846.)
In a post on Genforum from Jane dated Nov. 21, 2002:
Ancestor William Terrell Moseley was a son of James Washington Moseley and Sarah Wilbanks, his grandfather was Samuel Moseley who married Mary Ann Kelley, his great grandfather was Samuel Moseley who married Susanna Bledsoe (This Samuel was a Revolutionary Soldier and born in NC and moved to Franklin Co., GA).
A cousin of the grandfather was a Mozley from Rabun Co., GA (This is the Mozeley family who married into the Terrell family.)
Jane also does not know how the Terrells are related, but they are relatives.
D. E. Mozley married J. D. Armstrong 12-12-1892 in Somervell, TX Source: Ditto
(I think that her name is Ella Dora Mozley, called "Nora". She does not appear to be from my line of Mozleys, maybe from the Mozleys who came here in the early 1800s.)
Census Database, same book.
James Mozley was counted in Bedford Co., VA Census pg 471, 1810. (This is believed to be James, the son of Walter.)
Josiah Mozley was counted in Bedford Co., VA Census pg 474, 1810. (I don't know who this is, or if he is related.)
Pamale Mozley was counted in Bedford Co., VA Census pg 474, 1810. (This is may be Pamela Crump who married Arthur Mosley. "--, -, 1799 , Arthur married Pamelia Crump; Caleb Tate, Jr. Surety; Bond, M.R. in canvas book.")
John E. Mozley was counted in Monroe Co., No TWP listed, GA Census pg 223, 1830. (This is the son of Edward, Jr, aka "Edwin".)
Solomon Mozley was counted in Appling Co., No TWP listed, GA Census pg 12, 1830 (Unknown relationship, if any)
Thomas Mozley was counted in Marquette, Marquette Co., Wis., Census pg 97, 1850. (This Thomas was the son of the Edward Mozley who immigrated to Pennsylvania in the early 1800s, relationship to our line unknown, if any.)
There are probably many other records out there that I have not accessed that may give some info. I am hoping that someone finds these records and shares them.
