Notes for MARY "MOLLY" MOHN: Everyone loved and respected Aunt Molly Mohn Walton and Uncle Dennis Walton. However, an old family story handed down in the family must have brought hot color to Molly's cheeks on many occasions. Aunt Dolly Hambay tells that when Grandpa Mohn (John J) got married to Rebecca Ropp in 1866, his little sister was just nine years old. The Mohn family's roots were in Berks County, PA. and there was still a touch of the Pennsylvania Dutch (German) accent in their speech. As the large wedding party gathered around a lavishly laden dinning table, there was a moment of silence during which Molly's little round body took the opportunity to make an unseemly sound. Immediately, she piped up, "Oh, I tot dat vould be a sly von, but it vas a crasher!" |
