Descendants of Robert (Robin) CHAMBLEE

Generation No. 1

1. ROBERT (ROBIN)1 CHAMBLEE1 was born Abt. 1738 in Bertie Co. NC, and died 1819 in Wake Co, NC. He married (1) ESTHER OR HESTER(POSSIBLY) WARREN1 in Probably Bertie Co.NC, daughter of BENJAMIN SR. and ESTHER WARREN.

Notes for R
OBERT (ROBIN) CHAMBLEE:
1: According to CHAMBLEE researchers, Robert's probable birth date of 1738 is figured based upon the legal age of 21 years from his 1st land transaction of June 15, 1759 in Bertie Co, NC where he purchased from a John Barett a "tenement tract of parcel of land" of 100 acres in Chinkopen Neck. This transaction was proven in court in July 1759.

2: Robert is listed on Revolutionary War Rolls, but it is unknown how much, if any, time he actually served. According to Secretary of State records he had a neighbor, Frederick Strickland, substitute for him for one year. In 1792 powers of attorney were drawn up to transfer funds to Frederick Strickland due him through this service.

3: Robert left a will dated April 22, 1819 with no mention of a living wife. This will was probated Feb. 7, 1820. His inventory was conducted Jan. 19, 1820 carrying notes on " Abel UPCHURCH, Israel PRIVITT, Alsey PACE, Nehemiah PREVITT, James EDINS, Ephraim BOLTON, James CHAMLEE, Benjamin BOLTON, Sr., Willie BRYANT, Amos SANDERS and Jerrod CHAMLEE" Payment was indicated for Josiah CRUDUP for preaching at Robert's funeral. Crudup was the minister at Hepzibah Baptist Church from 1828 to 1836, it is unknown where Crudup was pastor before then but it is thought that it was perhaps at Poplar Springs Baptist Church nearby. Roberts material possessions at his death were few. His affairs were handled by son, John CHAMBLEE. There was a sale on April 15, 1820. John CHAMBLEE is listed as purchasing Roberts old chest and his hymn book.

4: Although no marriage bond for Robert CHAMBLEE has been uncovered, it is probable that Robert married Esther WARREN, daughter of Benjamin Warren Sr. of Wake Co. NC.

5: In 1768 Robert brought charges in court against Benjamin WARREN Sr., Matthew HUBBARD and Benjamin WARREN Jr. regarding the public auction of HUBBARD's land which Benjamin WARREN sold to HUBBARD in 1757. Despite this court action, he eventually named a son after his alleged father-in-law Benjamin WARREN Sr.

Note: All information and descendancy of Robert Chamblee obtained from fellow Chamblee researchers D'Ann Chamblee, Carla Tate, Tilmon and Anne Chamblee.

Notes for E
STHER OR HESTER(POSSIBLY) WARREN:
Robert might have married Esther Warren, daughter of Benjamin Warren Sr. of Bertie Co, NC. Esther Chamblee is listed as a member of the local church.
In early Bertie Co. Benjamin Warren proved his rights, listing Esther along with James, Benjamin, Margaret, Mary Patience and William.
NOTE: According to some Chamblee researchers, there is other evidence that Esther was Roberts mother.

According to research by D'Ann Stoddard, between 1777 and 1784 Robert and wife (or possibly mother) were brought to court by their neighbor, Agness Lee, and were mentioned in records as " Robert and Hester Chambly ". She wanted a restraining order against them in payment of 100 pounds because, as she stated, "she was afraid of them".
