Jonathan Herring, son of Isaac Herring and husband of Amanda Evans Herring. 32" x 24 " charcoal and pencil portrait done abt. 1862. Jonathan and his brother, John Herring served from 1862 to wars end in Co.K, 2nd South Carolina artillery regiment.
Portrait is owned by Jonathan's g.g.grandson Joe Evans Herring, an attorney in Dothan, AL. and who, if he had the beard, could have posed for the portrait.
