Whakapapa or Genealogy has always been of interest to me since childhood. At an early age I made notes of discussions with my parents, grandparents and elders of my tribes, recording stories, discussions, waiata or songs and family, subtribe and tribal genealogy and history. My natural father was Ephraim Prime who was born in Mangakahia, Ngati Hine of Ngapuhi. My natural mother was Josephine Taiaroa whose father was Hohepa Taiaroa born in Whangaehu but of Ngati Tuwharetoa descent. Hohepa married Miri Te Ngaio Kahukaka of the Ngarauru tribe. I was adopted at birth by a prominent elder of Ngati Ruanui, [Taranaki], Hoani Heremaia. His natural father was George Kahui Pokai Atua from Parihaka, Taranaki Iwi. Hoani's natural mother, Moringa Ngakirikiri Cracknell was Ngati Ruanui. My foster father Hoani Heremaia was raised by Moringa and her second husband, Jerry Hokopaura, Heremaia Blake from Ngati Ruanui. Hoani Heremaia married Rene Huia Taiaroa the elder sister to my natural mother Josephine Taiaroa. As is evident above, my family history is vry intricate indeed and has provided me with a wealth of interesting challenges in putting together my family tree and the family trees of my many cousins and relations. Thanks to FAMILY TREE MAKER, I have been able to put together my complex family tree and show how all the branches are connected and inter-related. Over the many years working with Family Tree Maker I have worked on the following families: Heremaia Prime Blake Rongonui Pokai/Atua Kershaw, and the following Iwi or tribes: NGATI RUANUI NGARAURU NGAPUHI NGATI TUWHARETOA TAINUI I am currently producing Family Reunion bookles for the: 1. Heremaia/Blake/Rongonui Family Reunion hui this Xmas 2005 to be held at Whenuakura marae. Current primary research is focussed on when ancestor Blake came to NZ, his origins, parents and ancestors. 2. Kershaw Family Reunion Xmas 2005 to be held at Pariroa Pa. Current primary research is being conducted on when the Kershaw ancestor Robert or Robert Edward Kershaw came to NZ. His/their origins, parents & ancestors. 3. Prime family. Still actively searching for date of arrival of Samuel Prime to NZ, and information on his origins, his parents and ancestors. |
