Henry HERRICK is our earliest know HERRICK ancestor in America. He was an early settler of Salem, MA and arrived in the Massachusetts Bay Colonies with the Rev. Francis HIGGINSON and the GCMB fleet, 1629. He petitioned for freeman 1630 and was sworn a freeman 1631. His first recorded Church association was in 1636. He is noted as Henry of Salem in the 1846 & 1885 editions of the Herrick Genealogical Register, HGR, compiled and published by Jedediah & Lucius HERRICK, respectively. The books claim that he was the fifth son of Sir William HEYRICKE, knight, Beau Manor Park, Leicestershire, England. However, evidence has recently been discovered that show there was a second Henry HERRICK in Elizabeth City County, (now Hampton), and Warwick County, (now Newport News for records), Virginia, as early as 1642 and as late as 1653. Henry of Salem was married to Editha LASKIN. Henry of Virginia was married to Ann UNKNOWN. We are conducting research to verify which Henry HERRICK was the son of Sir William HEYRICKE and what was the English ancestry of the other Henry HERRICK and how he ties to the English Pedigree of the 1846 & 1885 HGRs. |
