The Waterbury-Sheppard FamilyUpdated March 2, 2008 | ElizabethSheppard Hewitt St. John's,NewfoundlandCanada [email protected] |
This web site contains geneological information on the Waterbury family of Ontario, Canada and the Sheppard family of Newfoundland, Canada. Prominent names include: Walrath, Solmes, Jackson, Langdon, Brock, Ricketson, Prosper,Compagnon, Blanchard, Halfyard, Raike, Crocker, Eisan, Shelnut, and Hewitt. Like any good mystery, the story is far from over. Many unanswered questions and connections remain, therefore the site will be a work in progress. The biggest mystery in this tree is the first name of Mr. Waterbury who married Lucretia Brock of Massassauga, Ontario. We suspect it may have been a gentleman by the name of Ebenezer Waterbury who became a naturalized citizen in Sophiasburgh, Ontario in 1828. He is the only Waterbury in the same area as Lucretia, therefore it looks promising. Without his first name however,we have been unable to connect to any of the Waterbury families from Stamford, Ct. Since Waterbury is not a common name in Ontario, we suspect that our ancestor was a descendent of the Ct. families. If Ebenezer or any other Waterbury in your tree might be our "missing link" I'd love to hear from you! Please check out the outline descendancy tree on William Brock for the Waterbury family information. The Ricketson information in this family tree was gratefully received by my new "cousin" John Ricketson.I have not included a descendancy tree on this branch specifically, as his website addresses the Ricketsons. Please check it out. The Walrath information on this site was once more received by another new "cousin", Jerry Walrath.Jerry also has a great website that includes my Walrath ancestors and many others. It was a real treasure for me and I hope it will be for you as well. A new discovery is the Mi'kmaq blood line in the family. My great great Grandmother, Irene Compagnon was a Mi'kmaq from John's Beach, in the Bay of Islands, Newfoundland. As well, Katherine Blanchard, her mother in law was native from the McIvers area, also in the Bay of Islands. I am actively seeking information on these lines and would love to hear from anyone with information to share. The great thing about geneology is the opportuntity to uncover your history, and meet many new family members at the same time.I can't tell you how touched I have been by "cousins" who have happily photocopied information for me from all over the world, in the name of family. What a wonderful commentary on the generosity of the human spirit. My husband has accumulated substantial information on the Hewitt family of Fogo Island and Barr'd Islands, Newfoundland, Canada, who originated from England. He also has information on the Fudge family, the Coffins, the Cobbs, the Pelleys and other Newfoundland families. If these families sound familiar, please email me for more information. Please check back often for updates. If you recognise the individuals noted here and have information to share, I'd love to hear from you. Happy ancestor hunting! |
