Grandma was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, UK in 1862. Her family eventually settled in Dundee, Scotland from where Mary emigrated to Australia. She arrived in Maryborough, Q. on October 2, 1885 on the ship "Waroonga". Nurse Hickey, as she became known was a noted Midwife in the Pialba district since Mary & her husband, Frank Hickey settled there in 1897. Grandma was to open "Nurse Hickey's Lying-in Hospital" in 1912 in their large family home.
