Notes for G
EORGE GUESS I:
from Don Chesnut's web page; www.users.mis.net/~chesnut/pages/cherokee.htm
Sikwayi :
a masculine name, commonly written Sequoya, made famous as that of the inventor of the Cherokee alphabet. The name, which some say cannot be translated, is still in use upon the East Cherokee reservation.
****************************
Others say it should be translated as "Pig's Foot" due to his childhood lameness.
****************************
Sequoyah was a cousin of Nancy [the mother of James D Wofford] and Nancy was mixed Cherokee/Natchez/White. (ref: James Mooney's notes, National Anthropological Archives of the Smithsonian, item# 3548)
