He married (1) POLLY EMERSON 06 Dec 1796 in Lyme, Connecticut. She died 19 Sep 1803. He married (2) SUSANNAH BARTHOLOMEW 01 Jul 1805 in Washington County, New York, daughter of LEMUEL BARTHOLOMEW and MARY SQUIRE. She was born Abt. 1777 in Washington County, New York, and died 05 Sep 1848 in Whitehall, New York.

From notes of Wayland C Savre "Comments Regarding Jospeh Beckwith Family Search" , written 27 April 1993; sent to Edna Carroll by Doris (Sweet) Hass; sent to Sonja by Edna (Smith) Carroll and received 8 May 2000:

"Dyer died March 1, 1859 and was buried on what is now the Lamay (or Chapman farm on Stalker Road, North Whitehall, NY. (His wife, Susanah, son David, grandchildren, Carrol D. and Clarissa, daughter-in-law Anna, granddaughter Cynthia and three young children of Benjamin are also buried there.) The inscription on Susanah's tombstone is covered by an iron strap and it is not definitely known that Dyer's wife rests there. It is not known how Susanah, Dyer's wife, whose second husband was Cereno Trowbridge would come to be buried in the Beckwith plot, although I can think of a number of scenarios. The date of death (Sept. 5, 1848) shown on Susanah's tombstone matches exactly the one that my mother gave for a Susanah she thought was a daughter of Joseph that died in infancy. This makes absolutely no sense when the birth date shown on the stone is 1777. It would be very informative to get a look under the iron strap. There is also a discrepancy in the birth date of Dyer, b. 1774. It is shown as 1782 on his tombstone. It is hard to understand how an error that large would occur."
