"Heinrich" brought our Meyer branch from Germany to America in 1855. He was 36 years of age and left Germany with his wife, Dorathea (who never allowed a picture to be made of her) and four children: John Henry, Conrad, Dorathea and Louisa. Louisa, who was about 3 years old at the time, died aboard ship while crossing the mighty Atlantic and was buried at sea. The Meyers lived in Chicago for about 15 years before moving on to Iowa. At least 3 other children were born to Heinrich and Dorathea in America. In Germany, Heinrich was a wagon builder. He was a farmer in Iowa. Heinrich is my g-g-grandfather
