    Henry Koester (1863-1941) & wife Eleanora Christina Dorathea "Nellie" Meyer (1861-1936; and children Anna (1894-1986) and Carl (1891-1919). Picture circa 1899... Nellie was the daugher of Heinrich & Dorothea (Ritz) Meyer.

  • Carsten Heinrich Friedrich Meyer 1819-1905 (11 KB)
    "Heinrich" brought our Meyer branch from Germany to America in 1855. He was 36 years of age and left Germany with his wife, Dorathea (who never allowed a picture to be made of her) and four children: John Henry, Conrad, Dorathea and Louisa. Louisa, who was about 3 years old at the time, died aboard ship while crossing the mighty Atlantic and was buried at sea. The Meyers lived in Chicago for about 15 years before moving on to Iowa. At least 3 other children were born to Heinrich and Dorathea in America. In Germany, Heinrich was a wagon builder. He was a farmer in Iowa. Heinrich is my g-g-grandfather
  • George A Peterson- Olaf's only sibling adopted out (64 KB)
    Anton Sahlbom was left with 2 small boys when his wife, Mathilda Dahlstedt, froze to death in Minnesota,in a mining camp while he was gone.. Anton allowed Frank and Christine Peterson, acquaintances, to adopt George, and he became George Alfred Peterson, forever lost to his Sahlbom family...George was born 24th of April, 1887, and the Peterson's filed for adoption on July 5, 1888. George died on 21 Aug 1946, in Seattle, Washington, not 60 mile from where his brother lived...It took over 110 years for the two families to become acquainted again! This photo was sent to me by Monte, George's grandson,who discovered his grandfather's birth name of "Sahlbom" and located us through the internet! Thanks, Monte, for helping bring the family back full circle! :)

    James was born Sept 12, 1803, in Westmoreland Co, PA, son of Joshua & Nancy (Reed) Frazee. He married Susannah Harris on March 16, 1826. James died Oct 14, 1884, in Chickasaw County, Iowa. He was my great-great-great grandfather.

    Joseph was born June 21, 1821, in Whitehall, Washington Co, NY to Dyer & Susannah (Bartholomew) Beckwith. Three marriages: 1) Lucinda Almira Wood; 2) Rosanna (Shook) Silvis; 3)Abigail J. Williams. Joseph lived in Floyd County, Iowa. He died June 17, 1898. He's my g-g-g-grandfather.

    Cyrena Sarah Beckwith was born 8 Jun 1845 in Whitehall, New York, to Joseph H Beckwith & Lucinda Almira Wood. She married John Frazee 24 Apr 1868 in Chickasaw Co, Iowa. They had 8 known children together. Cyrena died 9 Nov 1909 in Iowa. She was my g-g-grandmother... I have a pair of mittens that she knitted for my grandmother (Effie Tolle) when she was born in 1892

    This is a portrait of Cora Frazee, ca 1890, who was born Apr 14, 1870, in Bassett, Iowa, to John & Cyrena (Beckwith) Frazee. She married James Henry Tolle on 13 Aug 1891. Jim and Cora had 10 children - one son to die in infancy. Then there were 8 girls (the oldest my grandmother, Mary Effie Tolle) and one son, Glenn Frazee Tolle. My grandmother - Effie - was born in the same house as her mother, my great-grandmother Cora. Cora died in 1953, and is buried beside her husband, Jim, in Beckwith Cemetery, in Charles City, Iowa. Jim, however, outlived his beloved wife by 10 years...passing away in 1963.

    William was born 22 Jan 1809 in Virginia to William and Diana (Benham) Tolle. He died 13 Mar 1891 in Fairfield, Nebraska. Phoebe was was the daughter of Nathan and Margaret (Metts) Thomas. They were married 21 June 1834, in Mason County, Kentucky.

  • Benjamin F. & "Maggie" (Harden) Headley (131 KB)
    Ben is the son of David & Jane (Moore) Headley. He served in the Civil War in Company(H)of the 101st Ind. Vol.Infantry Regiment of the United States. He was wounded in the Battle of Chickamauga in Georgia and was discharged. Ben had no children to survive him - 2 sons David Morrison Headley and Seth Thomas Headley dying in 1882 and losing four children in infancy. He was married 8 times according to his brother's statement.

    Ludvig was the 7th child born to Hans Jacob Lyshaug/Nygaard/Bratvold & Johanna Olson. He was one of 5 of 11 children of this couple who emigrated to America from Nannestad, Maura, Norway. He is my great uncle.

    This picture is of my grandmother and 3 of her siblings and her parents in Norway.. Her parents (my g-grandparents) were: Hans Jacob Lyshaug/Nygaard/Bratvold (unsure of which last name he used) & wife, Johanna Olson; and I'm assuming their four oldest children: left to right: Ole Christian Nygaard, Jonny Kristine Nygaard, Bertha Marie Nygaard (my grandmother), and Lars Oscar Nygaard. The couple had 11 children altogether - 5 emigrated to America. Special thanks to Leonard & LaVonne Nygaard, Austrid Kriege and Nancy (Nygaard) Teigen for sharing their knowledge of our Nygaard family with me!

    This is my grandmother - born 13 Apr 1892 in Maura, Nannestad, Norway. Came to America alone at age 16. Her brothers came ahead and sent her the money to make the journey.. First husband - Andrew Paul Hansen, by whom she had two children to survive- Glen and Ruby; div'd and married my grandfather, Olaf S Sahlbom and had four children: Arlene (my mom), George, Kenneth and Eugene. Marie died August 16, 1943, in Bellingham, Washington.

Minda married Svere Ruud and had four children. Minda was only 4 years old when her sister, my grandmother, left Norway for America. How exciting to see this picture of my great-aunt!     Helga Johanna Nygaard was born May 11, 1899, in Norway to Hans Jakob Larsen-Nygaard-Bratvold & Johanna Olsen. She married Olaf Myrvold and had six children.     Olaf Severine Sahlbom was born in Tunadel Village, Skon Parrish, Sweden, on 23 Oct 1884, to Anton Wilhelm Sahlbom & Mathilda Kristina Dahlstedt. He was about 3 yrs of age when he and his mother came to America to join Anton... He died in Bellingham, Washington, on 4 Dec 1942.

    Johanna Nygaard (1867-1931)is holding her son, Karl Johann Bratvold (1908-1992), on his christening day in 1909 in Nannestad, Akershus, Norway. Her daughters in the back are: Jonny Kristine Nygaard (1894-1980) and Anna Karoline Nygaard (1897-1925). Johanna is my great-grandmother. Her daughter, my grandmother - Berthe Marie Nygaard - left Norway for America in 1908 joining two older brothers, Lars & Ole Nygaard, already in America. Five of Johanna's 11 children left Norway to find a new life in America.

  • John Frazee (my g-g-grandfather) 1841-1917 (28 KB)
    John Frazee was the youngest child of James Lytle & Susannah (Harris) Frazee. Born 5 Feb 1841 in Clinton Co, Ind. He was 11 yrs old when the family moved to Iowa. He attended Upper State Univ in Fayette, Iowa, for a time, and was a freshman in the Class of 1865. John married Cyrena Sarah Beckwith and they had 6 known children - 3 to die in their childhood - 2 of diphtheria. John taught some in the county schools. He was a farmer. He also served two terms in the Iowa State legislature - 1894 & 1896. In the 1880 Census record for Chickasaw twp, we find his father, James Lytle Frazee, age 76, in the household. In the 1900 Census, his brother-in-law, David O Beckwith, is found living in the household. John passed away on November 7, 1917, as was buried beside his beloved wife, who preceded him in death in 1909. They are buried in Beckwith Cemetery in Floyd County, Iowa.

    David was born about 1787 in Pennsylvania, according to the 1850 and 1860 Census Records. He was married to Jane Moore (possibly other wives before her since he's 19 years her senior) and several children were born: David, Hannah, Susan (1837), Benjamin (1841), Isaac (1842), Griffery (1844), Sarah J (1846), and James M (1849). Most of the children were born in Ohio.

    Dau of Carsten Heinrich Friedrich Meyer & Anna Dorothea (Ritz). Born June 21, 1861, in Cook Co., Illinois. Married Henry Koester. Had 3 children - one son to die in infancy. Nellie died May 22, 1936, in Paullina, O'Brien County, Iowa. Nellie would be my great-great-aunt.

    This picture came from Norway, and is my Grandmother's Confirmation Photo. She was probably around 14 or 15 which would make the date around 1906. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 16 in 1908.
