* The HIERLIHY's of Tabusintac, New Brunswick, Canada*

Updated December 19, 2001

I am the GGGGGRandson of Philip HIERLIHY probably born prior to 1766 Mallow Ireland. Philip married one Charlotte Taylor Blake Wishart, 11 Sept 1787, New Brunwick. Philip is believed to be a brother of Timothy HIERLIHY the founder of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. I have completed the direct desendant line on Philip to myself as of Dec 11 2001.

The spelling of the HIERLIHY surname has taken on many angles over the years and here are just a few. HURLYHIE, HURLEY, HERLIHY, HIRLIHY, HIERLYHIE. These spellings have been recorded in history data as early as the late 1800 in Nova Scotia.

The HIERLIHY name has come down through the history books from the spelling of "URTHUILE", Ireland. There is suggestion that Philip HIERLIHY is a direct descendant of one Philip O'HURLEY of Ireland. Given this suggestion I can not help but wonder how the name was changed to that of HIERLIHY.

We do know that Philip HIERLIHY was a member of the Prince of Wales Royal American Regiment, and that Timothy HIERLIHY was also a soldier of the same unit, but out ranked his relative Philip. Timothy ends up in Nova Scotia as previously mentioned, however Philip goes to Prince Edward Island, so history suggests, however at the sametime there is little or no history to support this visit. Philip is a mystery to most researchers including myself.

I would certainly offer my files to anyone wishing to share data.
