I am researching African american ancestors by the surname of: Bias,Byas, Byers, Byass surnames in Louisiana. The first record of Bias family members appeared in the 1870 census of Acadia and St. Landry Parishes. It is not know whether they were free men or ex-slaves. Most were considered to be "mulattoes" in the early census and marriage records. Names such as:John Bias, Avery Bias, Emily Bias, Solomon Bias, Nebraska Bias, Houston and Henderson Bias.
