He had two children by this first wife: Caroline, b. 27 Apr 1840 married Joseph McKee and 2nd to James Laind; she died 1 Dec 1925 and is buried at Benton Branch. 54. JEMIMA8 HILDEBRAND (FRANCIS7, DAVID6, PETER5, JOHN H.4, JACOB3, JACOB2, PETER1) was born 1833 in Big River, Jefferson County, Missouri, and died 1880 in MO21. She married JOHN MC. COLEMAN, son of BENJAMIN COLEMAN and MARTHA. He was born Abt. 1828.

Notes for J
EMIMA HILDEBRAND:
(2) JEMIMA HILDEBRAND
The second child of Francis and Sirena Williams was born ca 1833 in Missouri. She married John Mc. Coleman ca 1858. His middle initial was the Scottish prefix Mc (See signature in Francis M. Hildebrand's estate papers) They resided for a time in Jasper Twp, Dallas Co., MO. They had an infant daughter born 7 Sept 1859 who died shortly thereafter. A second daughter, Allice, was born 11 Nov 1862 and died 27 Jan 1867. Allice was buried at Morgan Cemetery. The 1860 census shows them with no children. We have not located them in subsequent census enumerations.

John M. Coleman was the son of Benjamin (b. 1806 in MO) and Martha (b. 1812 in MO). His father was Benjamin E., born 9 Dec 1780, died in Dallas Co., MO, burial in Morgan Cemetery. This may also be a family from the St. Louis, or Meramec settlement. To be born in 1806 in Missouri, the birthplace would have to be one of the settlements around St. Louis or, less likely, a French settlement somewhere else along the Mississippi River. Since they lived next door to Francis Hildebrand in the 1850 census, it is likely the Colemans were neighbors in Jefferson County.

55. THOMAS M.8 HILDEBRAND (FRANCIS7, DAVID6, PETER5, JOHN H.4, JACOB3, JACOB2, PETER1) was born 1834 in Big River, Jefferson County, Missouri. He married MARY A. Abt. 1855. She was born 1836 in KY.

Notes for T
HOMAS M. HILDEBRAND:
(3) THOMAS M. HILDEBRAND
The third child of Francis and Sirena Williams Hildebrand was born ca 1834 in MO. This family was in the 1830 census in Jefferson Co., MO. enumerated after Francis's father, David, so may have lived on his farm. Thomas would have been just a toddler when the family moved to what became Dallas Co. He grew up there and married about 1855. Since the marriage record is not extant, we do not know her maiden name. She is born 1836 in Kentucky. The Adams family lived nearby and they were from Kentucky.

Thomas and Mary had three children as listed in the 1860 census. We have not found record of them after this and Thomas is not found mentioned in his father's estate papers. He may have died before 1879 or they may have moved on to Oklahoma or elsewhere. Thomas was of the age to serve during the Civil War and as this event took the lives of many young men, it is very possible that this was his fate.

His land, originally purchased in 1860 was sold to his brother-in-law, Turner McLeod 14 Apr 1885 for back taxes owed from 1870-1881. This was lot 8, NE qtr of Sec 1, Twp 34, Range 19. This was about 1/2 mile S.W. of Francis's property.

Hi- saw your entry on the genweb page for Dallas County. Just curious on
what Hilderbrand/Hildebrand you have. I am researching MaryJane Hilderbrand
b. 1877 Dallas County. Her parents were James Dawson Hilderband and
Elizabeth Ann Rice. Siblings were James and Alvira.
Let me know if any connection.

Thanks,
Debbie

(4) JAMES DAWSON HILDEBRAND
The fourth child of Francis and Sirena Williams Hildebrand, born between 1835 and 1838. He is shown on the 1840 census of Polk Co., MO. but does not appear in the reading of the 1850 of Dallas Co. He married Betsy Ann Rice. Absolom Rice became the guardian of his three minor heirs. He died in 1881 in Conway, Faulkner Co., AR. A descendant, Terri Allen, says that he had served in the Civil War. It is also tradition in the family that Betsy Ann Rice was Cherokee.

LDS file 2WQP-TD lists a James D. Hildebrand b. abt 1866 in Francis 1809 family. This surely must be in error. Perhaps James Dawson had a son by the same name born in 1866? (Emery Hildebrand 1948)

  i.   ALVIRA9 HILDEBRAND, b. 1870, perhaps in Arkansas; d. 1883, due to fever.
ii.   JAMES CARL HILDEBRAND, b. 1875, perhaps in Faulkner Co., AR; d. 1881, Conway, AR; m. BETSY RICE, reported to have 3 children; b. Abt. 1830.
  Notes for BETSY RICE:

Seeking any information on the family of James Dawson HILDEBRAND born possibly in the 1830s in MO. James married Elizabeth (Betsy) Ann
RICE. They had three children, Alvira b.1870, James Carl, and Mary Jane b.1877. James died in 1881 in Conway, AR. I don't know what ever
became of his wife Betsy, but there are court papers showing that in 1881 when James died all three children were then given to Betsy's brother,
Absalom RICE, to take care of. Alvira b.1870 died in 1883 due to fever.

Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Happy to share what information I have. Please e-mail me at
