Will of Henry Hillock, gives all his bonds and notes and other accounts due him to James Hambleton Hillock, also all his other property, and desired that the money be put to interest and that his mother, Sarah Hambleton to have the said interest paid her yearly for keeping said boy until he reaches maturity; in case James Hambleton Hillock should die, then the said money and other property to be given to Sary Hambleton, his mother. He appoints Henry Marshall his executor desiring that he take the bonds and notes out of Mr. McCullough's hands which had been left in his care. June 11, 1800. Walter Karrick, Joshua Judd and Jonah Sketer witnesses. Probated July 1800, and re-recorded October Court 1804.
"The Hillocks were members of the MacDonald Clan when the clan joined Robert The Bruce to repel the English at the battle of Bannockburn, near Sterling Castle, on June 23-24,1324. One small family group (said to be 16) of the MacDonalds bravely defended a small hill the English were trying to capture, and after the Scottish victory, King Robert honored them by giving them their own name,"Hillock". The name Bannerman was given at the same time to the family of a man who bravely defended the flag."
