Notes for W
ILLIAM NICHOLSON:
From my genealogist Allen Robertson I received the following death date for William Nicholson of Beaverbank:
Allan E. Marble, comp. Deaths, Burials, and Probate of Nova Scotias, 1800-1850, From Primary Sources 4 Vol. (Halifax, NS:             Genealogical Association of Nova Scotia, 1999):Vol.3 (K-O): ---pg.302: Nicholson, William died 1 February 1847 Beaverbank aged       67 years St. John’s Anglican (B) (ie---burial register)

From my genealogist Karen McKay I got the following birth record for William Nicholson:
St. Matthew Presbyterian, Halifax (originals not available for viewing transcribed, typscripted and microfilmed) page 36 William             Nicholson born 27 December 1790 son of Malcolm and Sarah Nicholson

From the 1851 Spryfield Census we see William Nicholson father of William Nicholson as over 50 years of age in 1851 meaning he was born prior to 1800, from other sources we know he was born in 1790 matching the birth record for Malcolm and Sarah and since the Beaverbank William, above, was 67 in 1847 when he died we know he was born in 1780, not 1790 like our William Senior and was probably another relative of Malcolm not his son. I think this should add weight to the growing evidence that Malcolm Nicholson of Beraverbank is indeed the father of our William Senior. Malcolm, to reiterate, was a disbanded soldier from the 76th regiment otherwise known as MacDonald’s Highlanders and were raised on the Isle of Skye and sent their earnings to family there. The Regiment was trained at Inverness they did not come from there.

If Malcolm is not WIlliam’s father you’re going to have to show me some hard core evidence because at this point I have a smoking gun and it just killed William Nicholson of Beaverbank as the son of Malcolm Nicholson of Beaverbank and I have a birth record for our William Sr. Nicholson saying Malcolm and Sarah were his parents.

Notes for E
LIZABETH ?:
I did some sleuthing this morning in the deeds at the Archives. Malcolm’s son, William, was the only William out there in Beaverbank during that time frame. I am calling him Malcolm’s son, because he was 22 years old in 1812 when the petition for the land first appeared.
Here’s a deed of interest: #437, Vol. 113, p. 525, Halifax County Deeds. Dated 2 Apr. 1856, Registered 7 May 1856, William’s widow, Elizabeth, says; I, Elizabeth Nicholson, Sr., of Beaverbank, for £7 pounds, do grant, sell, etc. unto William Nicholson, James Nicholson, David Nicholson, Daniel Nicholson, Sr., Thomas Nicholson, Elizabeth Nicholson and Charles Nicholson, the property whereof William Nicholson died seized of at aforesaid Beaverbank being all the property granted to Malcolm Nicholson and said William Nicholson her late husband and the lands adjoining the same granted to Robert Camplinand purchased by said William Nicholson. Every part thereof to the sole use and benefit of said William, Thomas, David, Daniel, James, Elizabeth and Charles Nicholson. Dated 2 Apr. 1856. Signed Elizabeth Nicholson in presence of Jacob Withrow, J.P.
On the same day, another deed, dated 7 April 1856, same vol. same page, was registered stating 'At a meeting' each of the above-mentioned people drew lots to determine which lots each received. The land was surveyed and distributed in this manner. The very legible signatures of each person appeared at the end of the deed. William R. Nicholson, James B. Nicholson, David A. Nicholson, John D. Nicholson, Thomas W. Nicholson, Elizabeth Nicholson and Charles L. Nicholson.
In subsequent deeds, I saw where James and his wife Louisa moved to Halifax, on Macara Street and sold their share of the property at Beaverbank to Thomas W. Nicholson. David and wife Abigail moved to Halifax and sold their share of Beaverbank to Thomas W. Nicholson. Daniel and wife Elizabeth moved to Halifax and sold their Beaverbank property to Thomas W. The last two men who moved to Halifax bought property on Lady Hammond Road and took out shares (a mortgage) in the N.S. Building Society. For their property, David paid $1200, Daniel paid $840.
Now, what happened to the William R. Nicholson who was mentioned with those other Nicholsons? I found no more deeds pertaining to him, although his named is mentioned when David sells his land to Thomas, land at the NE corner of that of William Nicholson, the SE corner of Charles Nicholson’s land and then north until it meets Elizabeth Nicholson’s land, that’s in 1859.
These people were well educated, could all sign their names, so now I am wondering if there are early school records for Beaverbank that might list their names and ages. David A. Nicholson was buried in the Good Shepherd Anglican cemetery in Beaverbank, and the stone says 1828-1917.
I looked at the Acadian Recorder, 31 Mar. 1838, for Malcolm’s death, and it was actually Thursday Mar. 29, 1838, that he died and the funeral took place on Sunday, Apr. 1, 1838. "Aged 88, a native of Inverness, and for many years a respected inhabitant of the province. Funeral to take place tomorrow, Sunday, at half-past four o’clock from Mr. Walter Curry’s of Marchington wharf. The friends and acquaintances of the family are respectfully invited to attend."
Marriage Bond dated 3 Mar. 1826, Mary Nicholson to Walter Currie, widower, of Beaverbank. Another Marriage Bond, dated 11 Nov. 1830, Effie Nicholson (Karen found birth of Euphemia) and Patrick McBride, Beaverbank, yeoman. Daniel Nicholson of Dartmouth signed Bond.
That’s all I had time to do this morning at the Archives. I decided I had better make an appearance at the stores.
While I feel we have ruled out William of 1790 as the William of Spryfield, it is still possible that his son, William R, may be the person we are looking for. He is the eldest of all those children in the deeds, and the earliest he could have been born was 1813, because in 1812 his father, the 22 year-old, does not mention a wife or children although Malcolm did. However, the age of William of Spryfield would not fit with the second William’s age.
I tried to find what happened to the property that the William Nicholson, Mason, of Dartmouth, bought in Dartmouth in 1831, but cannot find any further deeds that indicate he sold it. I just remembered that perhaps I should have checked the Nickerson spelling also. Nicholsons. I think she was taking down all the Nicholson deaths from the Halifax County Register (1864-1877) to see if she could find anything significant.

From Acadian Recorder, Sat., 2 Dec. 1854, marriage took place at Bayview (I don't know where that is) 30 Nov. 1854, James Henry Nicholson to Elizabeth Louisa Hamilton, 3rd daughter of Gilbert Hamilton. Here is a land transaction that confirms a connection:
Halifax County Deeds, vol. 113, p. 494, registered 28 Apr. 1856, indenture 2 Apr. 1856, Gilbraith Hamilton and wife Elizabeth, Halifax, farmer, for £50 pounds paid by James Nicholson and Louisa and his wife for land in Halifax on Macara Street in the North Suburbs.
