I am researching the HILL Family line of SLAUGHTER HILL(2)of Macon County Georgia. He and his descendants are covered in this homepage. The general timeline is 1802 thru present day. SLAUGHTER was a prominent plantation owner in middle Georgia starting in the 1820's until the time of his death in 1861. His birth is somewhere in North Carolina and he may be related to a "SLAUGHTER HILL(1)" family line located in the Halifax and Robeson Co areas, cir 1750 - 1816. SLAUGHTER HILL(2)families primarily lived in the Bibb, Macon, Turner, Irwin and other southern Georgia counties. A son (CALEB F.) directly participated in the Civil War and helped organize a company of Infantry from Macon County that saw action from 1862 and was at the South's surrender at Appomattox. All three of his son's WILLIAM W., CALEB FREEMAN, and HOWARD (Coon) HILL were active in the local and county governments. A branch of the third generation Hills established a local merchantile store in Montezuma, Macon Co, GA. that is still operated today by YANCEY HILL III that was started by his grandfather in the latter 1890's. Some of this generation even migrated to Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, and on to California. My branch of Slaughter's family line was primarily farmers and sharecroppers even up until the 1950's, worked as police officers, bus drivers, and served our country in World War II, Korea, and present day events. Any additions to this line, especially to connect SLAUGHTER HILL(2) to a HILL family line from NC would be appreciated. Dave HILL
