Notes for RACHEL HILL:
Rachel, like her mother and sister, had several children without benefit of matrimony. She was living with her mother, Mary, at the time of the 1870 and 1880 census and listed as being single. She married Thomas Ross on 26 Jan 1905 in Rutherford County, NC, when she was age 58 and he age 49. The 1910 census indicates that her marriage to Thomas was her second and that she had three children, all of whom were living. There is no record, indication or reason to believe that she had a previous marriage. The three children had the last name Hill.

Waynesville Mountaineer, May 5, 1952: Mrs Mary Hill Hall, 72, of Clyde, Rt 1, died Saturday morning in the Haywood County Hospital after a long illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County. She is the widow of David Hall and the daughter of the late William and Lou Crane Hill. The funeral was at 2 PM at the Lower Fines Creek Methodist Church and was officiated by Major Cecil Brown of the Salvation Army. Pallbearers were Alfred Price, Albert Beasley, Yoder Clark, Bennett Rogers, Jack Russell and Anderson Sutton. She is survived by brothers William A Hill, George Hill, half brothers Walter and Wiley Hill of Union, SC and half sister Ermie Hill of Union, SC.
