Evelyn Smathers Kilby, 63, Rt. 1, Waynesville died Monday (6/28/1976) in the Haywood County Hospital after a long illness. Services will be held at 2PM Thursday at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church with burial in Red Bank Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles and Jerry Phillips, Eddie Barton, Tim, Joe and Robert Smathers. She was a native of Haywood County and a daughter of Pearl Price Smathers and the late Charlie Smathers. She was the widow of the late Warren Kilby who died in 1954. Survived by two sisters Mrs. Frank Crawford and Mrs. Lymuel Phillips, two brothers Claude Smathers of Waynesville and Charles A. Smathers of Boone.

She married CALVIN LEONARD RABB October 07, 1917 in Haywood Co., NC, son of HENRY RABB and MARY FOSTER. He was born 1893, and died December 03, 1980 in Haywood Co., NC.

ULA MAE SMATHERS:
Lula Smathers Rabb, 97, of 625 Old Balsam Road, Waynesville, died Monday, April 20, 1998. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Iven Smith and Georgia Ann Satterfield Smathers. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. She was the wife of Calvin Rabb who died in 1980. Surviving are one son, Jack Rabb of Waynesville; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at Garrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Carden will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lynuel Phillips, Kenneth Smathers, Gordon Smathers and Roy Smathers, Carl McCracken and Steven Garrett. The family will receive friends one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church, 2404 Old Balsam Road, Waynesville, NC 28786

The Waynesville Newspaper, February 9, 1922: Balsam News, Mr and Mrs Calvin Rabb spent Saturday night with Mr and Mrs Jack Lyle.

Calvin Leonard Rabb, 85, of Rt 1 Red Bank died unexpectedly Wednesday. He was the son of the late Henry L. and Mary Foster Rabb. He was a retired lumberman. He is survived by his wife, Lula Smathers Rabb, 2 sons, Jack of Waynesville and Bonner of the home, 2 sisters, Etta Barnett of Waynesville and Pearl Wilkes of Everett, Washington, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery.
