She married PAUL WILLIAM ARRINGTON December 24, 1935 in Haywood Co., NC, son of WILLIAM ARRINGTON and RACHEL SATTERFIELD. He was born March 21, 1897 in Haywood Co., NC, and died March 27, 1963 in Newnan, GA.

Notes for EVELYN ELIZABETH DERRICK:
Evelyn Derrick Arrington, 83, of Palmetto, Georgia, died of cancer December 19, 1993 at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, Georgia. A native of Haywood County, she was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Palmetto and a retired clothing inspector for Playtex. Services were held December 21 in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn. The Rev. Marty Few officiated. Burial followed at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers were David Arrington, Edward Arrington, Mike Clark, Phillip Pence, Chris Young and Warren Young. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Young of Senoia, two sons Bill and Wade Arrington, both of Palmetto, two sisters, Harriet Rhinehart and Nell Crawford of Waynesville, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mountaineer Newspaper, June 15, 1922, Saunook News: Mr Paul and Alvin Arrington, while working in their corn, ran upon a big rattler measuring three feet six inches, with ten rattles and a button, Monday morning.

William Paul Arrington, 66, former resident of Haywood County, died Wednesday morning (March 27, 1963), at his home in Newnan, Georgia, after a long illness. He was a carpenter and a veteran of World War I. His parents were William and Rachel Satterfield Arrington. Surviving are the widow, Evelyn Derrick Arrington, a daughter, Mrs. Richard Young, and two sons, Wade and Bill Arrington all of Palmeto, Georgia, three sisters, Mrs. Claude Hill, Mrs. H.H. Evanson and Mrs. Rhoda Rickman all of Balsam.

He married ELIZA JANE HARRELL, daughter of ROBERT HARRELL and MAE CONNER. She was born November 15, 1900 in Jackson Co., NC, and died April 17, 1995 in Cabarrus Co., NC.

The Waynesville Newspaper, Balsam News, April 27, 1922, Mr and Mrs John Smathers were called to Willets last week to see her step-father, Mr James Henry, who is very ill with pneumonia.

Eliza Harrell Smathers, 94, of 4020 Armstrong Road, Concord, NC, died Monday, April 17, 1995, at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mae Conner Harrell. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late John Lee Smathers, who died in 1976. Surviving are one son, Robert Smathers of Concord; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 PM Thursday in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Chastain will officiate. Burial will be in Red Bank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Don Arrington.

Waynesville Mountaineer Newspaper: Dan Cebran Arrington, 80, of 1117 Oakdale Road, died Thursday, January 8, 1998, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Dan C Arrington and Minnie Smathers Arrington. He retired with 35 years as superintendant of construction for Davidson and Jones in Raleigh. He was a member of North Hazelwood Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Helen Elizabeth Smathers Arrington of Waynesville; sister, Ila Bowen of Waynesville; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2:30 PM Sunday at North Hazelwood Baptist Church. The Revs. Claude Surrett, Doug McDaris and Ronnie Owens will officiate. Burial will be in Red Bank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Saturday at Garrett Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

She married JOHN WILLIAM WOODALL, son of JOHN WOODALL and MARY FRAZIER. He was born June 25, 1899, and died April 27, 1977 in Burke Co., NC.

John married Vassie Carswell after Lillie died. He moved to 263 Piercy Road, Morganton, NC, where he was living at the time of his death. His body was returned to Balsam where he was buried alongside Elsie Lille.

Walter Newman Derrick, 54, Balsam View Drive, Balsam, died Friday, January 11, 1985, in an Asheville hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County, the son of Nina McCall Derrick of Balsam and the late Newman Derrick. He was employed by Hammer Mill Hardwoods Company in Jackson County. Surviving, in addition to the mother are three brothers, Lloyd and Robert Derrick of Balsam and Charles Derrick of Hazelwood; three sisters, Iris Peebles of Candler, Clara Mehaffey of Balsam and Anna Ruff of Hazelwood. Services were at 2 PM Sunday at Balsam Baptist Church where he was a member. Revs. Hardin Nicholson and David Bowers officiated with burial in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 9 PM Saturday at Garrett Funeral Home, Waynesville and at other times were at Nina Derrick's home. Pallbearers were Tony Bowers, Clifford Ruff, Tony Ruff, Tom McCall, Jerry Conner and James Kimbel.

He married ANNIE DEE CONNER August 09, 1928 in Haywood Co., NC, daughter of HENRY CONNOR and MARY HOYLE. She was born May 14, 1913.

He was a native of Jackson County, NC, and a son of Mrs. Emmy Crawford Smathers of Balsam and the late George Smathers. He is survived by his wife Annie Connor Smathers, daughter Mrs. Thelma Clark of the home, son Bobby Lee Smathers of Balsam, 3 sisters, Mrs. Dock I. Mehaffey of Hazelwood, Mrs. Marie Hoyle of Asheville, Betty Gunter of Balsam, 2 brothers, Woodrow and Phillip of Balsam and 2 grandchildren. Notes for WOODROW WILSON SMATHERS:
Waynesville Newspaper, Oct 28, 1926, Balsam News: Woodrow Smathers and Frank Mehaffey were run down by an automobile Saturday night near the fish hatchery and left unconscious on the roadside. When Frank regained consciousness he succeded in dragging Woodrow to the home of his father, Mr Jim Mehaffey, about 1/4 mile away. No clue has been found as to who was driving the car. The boys are not thought to be seriously injured.
