OY ELDEN ARRINGTON:
Roy Elden Arrington, 69, 100 Horse Ridge Drive, Waynesville, died Thursday, June 20, at Haywood County Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late William Rufus and Lilly Belle Smathers Arrington. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. He was retired from the US Postal Service with 30 years as a mailman and for many years was an apple grower and farmer. Surviving are his wife, Ethel Crawford Arrington; two sons, Alan E. and Brian K. Arrington; three daughters, Anita Ray and Melba Hudson, both of Waynesville, and Kathy Burrows of Washington, PA; four brothers, Cecil Arrington of Waynesville, Earl Arrington of Camden, SC, Sam Arrington of Statesville, NC, and Lowell Arrington of Longwood, Fla; two sisters, Kathleen Tolley of Candler, and Velda Holder of Waynesville; and four grandchildren. Services were held at 2PM Sunday at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. The Revs Paul Carden and Greg Metcalf officiated. Burial was in Plott Cemetery, Saunook. Pallbearers were Lee Messer, Bill, Joe, Wilfred, Eddie and Phil Arrington, Carlton and Marvin Rathbone.

Freda Jones Justice, 78, of Valley Road, died Saturday, March 16, 1996, at her home. A native of Jackson County, NC, she was a former resident of Canton. She had lived in Balsoam for the past 10 years. She was the daughter of the late John T and Lola Smathers Jones and was a 1936 graduate of Waynesville Township High School. She was the former secretary and bookeeper for Carolina Power and Light and Biltmore Forest Country Club. She also was a member of the Y's Menettes and was a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Jack F. Justice; one daughter, Jackie J McDonald of Meritt Island, Fla; one brother, Vernon Jones of Tampa, Fla; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery.

Monday, Nov 25, 1996, Waynesville Newspaper: Coy Ray Gunter, 72, of 315 Lickstone Road, Waynesville, died Sunday, Nov 24, at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Jackson County, he lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Larry and Oberia Smathers Gunter. He was a retired mill room operator with Dayco Products with 33 years of service and was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Frances Massie Gunter; one daughter, Lois Ann Swecker of Waynesville; three sons, Jonas Larry Gunter of Canton, and Johnny Mac and Jack Ray Gunter, both of Waynesville; five sisters, Irene Turner, Pauline Hurley and Velma Gaddis, all of Waynesville, Ilene Vicarini of Baltimore, Md., and Faye Hawkins of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Robert, Hughey and Floyd Gunter, all of Waynesville; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, Lloyd and Clyde Gunter; one grandson, Andy Anderson; and one great-great-granddaughter, Holly Williams. Services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at Grandview Baptist Church of which he was a member. Burial will be in Rocky Branch Cemetery.
