Notes for T
HOMAS OWSLEY I:
Thomas was the father of the American Owsleys. He went from England to Jamaica, and then to Stafford Co, VA.

In Stafford County (what is now Fairfax Co. and Arlington Co.), he owned most of what is now Fort Belvoir, as well as about 640 acres of what is now Rosslyn, Virginia, right across the Potomac River from Washington, DC.

He built a home on the 640 acres which still stands in an Arlington County park. It is called "Rio Vista." It dates from about 1696.

He served as sheriff of Stafford County, a Captain of the Rangers, and a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses from 1694 to 1698.

In 1996-98, Fairfax County conducted an archealogical dig at the site of Owsley's home on what is now a wildlife preserve at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. The archelogist believes he found the site of the house, but not Owsley's grave.
